BEIJING, Oct. 28 (Xinhua) -- China's discipline watchdog Wednesday opened a national informant website, to deal with the public's reports on discipline violation problems of the Party organizations and its members, and to collect suggestions for the Party's anti-corruption work.     The informant website, www. 12388. gov. cn, was launched by the Central Commission for Discipline Inspection of the Communist Party of China (CPC), and the Ministry of Supervision.     Citizens in China's 31 provinces and autonomous regions can all send their complains through the website, which has 31 portals for citizens from different places sending their appeals.     Each computer is required to send three letters each day in order to prevent repeated appeals.     The discipline watchdogs are also planning to establish informant website in city and county levels, in order to build a nationwide reporting system.     Since 2005, local supervision and discipline departments began to set up informant website one after another, which had accepted a large number of public complaints, helped relevant departments uncover valuable clues and also played an important role in combating corruption.     However, these websites did not work well because of its non-standard domain name and inadequate working system.     On June 26 last year, Supervision Ministry opened an informant hotline "12388" for people to report discipline offences of civil servants and officials.

BEIJING, Oct. 24 (Xinhua) -- China has a total number of 2,971 company groups by the end of 2008 and their combined assets rose 19.7 percent from the previous year to more than 40 trillion yuan (5.86 trillion U.S. dollars), the China Industrial Information Issuing Center said Saturday.     Corporate management of these company groups is improving, according to the center.     Affected by the global financial crisis and economic slowdown, profit of these company groups decreased by 22.5 percent in 2008 year on year, the first annual drop since 1997, said the center without giving specific figures.

BEIJING, Oct. 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang on Friday urged geologists to make full use of the country's rich resources and explore new energy in innovative ways.     "Geological work makes the basic and pioneer industry for economic and social development and it affects the country's overall modernization... We should mainly depend on our own power to increase energy supply," said Li at the ceremony for the country's top geological science awards.     A total of 14 geologists from the geological exploration, research and education fields received the 11th Li Siguang Geological Science Award. MALE, Maldives, Jan. 5 (Xinhua) -- Maldivian President Mohamed Nasheed and the visiting Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi on Tuesday pledged to work closely on climate change and other global issues.     Nasheed said his country appreciated the important and active role played by China in the Copenhagen Climate Change Conference held last month. ROME, Jan. 8 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Ambassador Sun Yuxi announced Chinese culture year in Italy at a press conference at the Chinese embassy here Friday.     The culture year, which follows Italian year in China in 2006, will officially start in September.     "The Chinese culture year in Italy is set to be a central obelisk supporting further exchange between the two countries. It is a crucial project on which both governments have long been working," said Sun.     The ambassador said nine Chinese central government departments and 22 local authorities would be involved in organizing more than100 events all over Italy, including performances of traditional Chinese musical bands, dances and operas.
