SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Catholic Charities San Diego is holding a workshop Saturday for young Dreamers affected by the DACA program uncertainty.Katia Ortiz is one of them. She said her parents brought her to the U.S. from Mexico when she was three. She said she has no recollection of where she was born.“It was really tough,” Ortiz said about feeling left out. She said she could not travel on class trips, she could not get a driver’s license and she could not apply for a college scholarship. She said DACA opened a lot of doors for her. “I got a job, and I got my license,” she explained. She also said she started attending college. Earlier this month, President Trump called to cut the program in March."It’s like you have everything and then it’s gone," Ortiz added.  "It’s tough thinking about, but I think what we all have to do is sit down and reflect."Frankly, at this time, I really don’t know what I would do."Catholic Charities San Diego helped about 700 people obtain DACA status, the group said. They said U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services will continue processing pending initial application accepted as of Sept. 5, 2017 and pending renewal applications already filed. They went on to say USCIS will continue accepting renewal applications until Oct. 5, 2017 from applicants whose DACA expires between Sept. 5, 2017 and March 5, 2018. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- California Highway Patrol has identified the man who died after slamming into a tree on the Sea World Drive on-ramp Saturday. CHP says 26-year-old Jacob Eugene Arnell was killed when the Cadillac Escalade he was driving at a high rate of speed overturned and hit a tree. The crash happened around 9 a.m. Saturday on the right shoulder of Sea World Drive. Arnell was pronounced dead at the scene. At this time, it’s unknown if drugs or alcohol were involved. The medical examiner’s toxicology report in pending, CHP says. Arnell was the only one inside the vehicle at the time of the crash. 618

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — County officials will challenge a ruling that allows local strip clubs to operate while several other businesses are closed or limited under California's new stay-at-home order.San Diego County's Board of Supervisors voted 3-2 in a closed session on Tuesday, with Supervisors Kristen Gaspar and Jim Desmond voting no, to appeal any "adverse ruling" to a hearing over whether to allow strip clubs to remain open.The businesses sued to county and state in October over COVID-19 restrictions that forced them to close indoor operations. A judge issued a preliminary injunction on Nov. 6 that protects the businesses from any enforcement, though the businesses must comply with rules surrounding a 10 p.m. curfew and close early.RELATED: State says San Diego County playgrounds can remain open during stay-at-home orderSupervisor Nathan Fletcher said on Wednesday that the board will have a hearing before a judge. If the judge keeps the injunction in place, the board will appeal.Fletcher said the majority of the board doesn't view strip clubs as essential and "felt that was consistent with common sense."
