BOCA RATON, Fla. - A young girl with a big heart and a love of music recently started a charity event to raise money in the fight against Parkinson's disease.Music has been a part of 11-year-old Kasey Moore's life since she picked up a violin at the age of three."I enjoyed it more and more as I grew older," Kasey said.Now, she is practicing playing the piano every day."When I practice, some part inside of me gets alive," Kasey said.Because of the pandemic, she's been able to dedicate more time to her musical passion while at home with her family.Her father, Dr. Henry Moore, is a neurologist at the University of Miami who specializes in movement disorders like Parkinson's disease."He helps people that suffer from this terrible disease called Parkinson's, and this disease affects their brain," Kasey said. Moore has been spending more time working from his home office, which gave Kasey a chance to feed her curiosity while her dad cared for patients."She was very moved by people, how they were very disabled, and then with the medication, they were super happy and so hopeful that this disease will stop," Moore said."It really touched my heart, and I wanted to do something to help, but I wasn't sure how," Kasey said.She decided to do her part to fight Parkinson's disease by creating a fundraiser called "Parkin-Song." BOSTON (AP) — Authorities in a city north of Boston have captured an emu after the large flightless bird was spotted roaming local streets. The Eagle-Tribune reports that the animal named Kermit escaped from the property of a Haverhill resident as she was preparing to relocate it to a farm in Maine. Native to Australia, Emus are the world's largest bird after the ostrich and can reach nearly 100 pounds and a height of almost six feet. Authorities in Haverhill caught the bird two hours after it was sighted. They say an animal control officer enticed the emu by feeding it a pear from a nearby pear tree. 616

BOSTON (AP) — The story of Buddy the Elf meeting his biological father has come to life, just in time for the holidays.Doug Henning of Eliot, Maine, wore a costume to look like Will Ferrell in the movie “Elf” while meeting his father face to face for the first time last week at Logan Airport in Boston.He even broke into the same awkward song from the movie. Henning told Boston.com that his biological father “probably thought I was a lunatic.”The dad didn’t get the joke because he hadn’t seen the movie, but that didn’t stop him from giving his son a big hug while other family members laughed and cheered.Henning said the family eventually did sit down and watch the movie together as a family.Henning told Boston.com that he grew up with amazing adoptive parents, but he wanted to know more about his heritage, so he used Ancestry.com.
