A study published this week takes a look at just how quickly Covid-19 test results are getting back, on average.Researchers surveyed more than 19,000 people across every state and the District of Columbia during the last two weeks of July. They asked how long people waited to get back test results.Most people, about 63 percent, are not getting their test results back within the one-to-two day window that is optimal for contact tracing.More than 30 percent of survey participants reported they received test results after four or more days.“Rapid turnaround of testing for COVID-19 infection is essential to containing the pandemic. Ideally, test results would be available the same day. Our findings indicate that the United States is not currently performing testing with nearly enough speed,” researchers said in the report of their findings.The average wait time nationwide was 4.1 days.However, there were disparities in wait times when looking at race. According to the study, Covid-19 test results wait times for Hispanics and Blacks are longer, at 4.6 days and 5 days respectively. Compared to wait times for white respondents, which was 3.9 days according to the study.Researchers said there is little sign the wait time for test results is speeding up. A similar survey conducted in April found that the national average wait time was 4.2 days.This study did not look into the causes of the delay in receiving test results. Other reporting has pointed to limited testing supplies, labs being overwhelmed with tests to run, and the time needed to contact everyone with results.On Monday, Florida’s Gov. Ron DeSantis called some Covid-19 test results “useless” because they are taking too long to come back. He announced his state is converting two testing locations to 15-minute rapid testing locations. 1823

A man was arrested on a DUI charge last week in Port St. Lucie, Florida after police spotted him riding a lawn mower, carrying a case of beer and driving erratically on an access road.An officer spotted 56-year-old Kenneth Burton Alleshouse on Nov. 3 at about 6:15 p.m.The officer stopped Alleshouse driving the lawn mower and could smell a strong odor of alcohol emitting from him.The officer conducted a DUI investigation and police say Alleshouse's blood alcohol level was three times over the legal limit. 532

A police department in Arkansas has apologized for sharing a misleading warning about the danger of opioids on its Facebook page."The post about the fentanyl was sent so me from another officer at another Department," the Leachville Police Department wrote on Facebook Thursday. "I simply shared it. I’m should have checked into it further before I posted it. Sorry for the confusion."The Leachville Police Department warned residents to wipe down shopping carts before using them to protect against the dangers of fentanyl, a powerful opioid. "Fentanyl or something like that still on their hands and they touch that cart handle and then you do, it can get into your system," the department originally posted on Facebook. "Scary but worth taking the time to clean the handle. All you'd have to do is rub your nose or touch your child's mouth. I never even considered this possibility. Children being exposed to just the powder or residue is a bad situation that can turn deadly."While a police officer in Ohio recently claimed ot have overdosed on fentanyl by simply touching the substance, some experts dispute the officer's claim.According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, opioids killed more than 33,000 people in 2015. A newly married man hasn't had much time to celebrate his marriage as he's been in the hospital with the rare condition acute flaccid myelitis for more than 100 days.Bridget Williquette and Adam Spoerri got married July 21, 2018. They left for their road trip honeymoon a few days later. But on August 5, Adam had to be taken to the emergency room with a respiratory disease that was affecting his breathing.Adam's body became increasingly paralyzed while in the ER, leaving his chest, arms, lungs, throat, facial muscles and neck without feeling. He was admitted to the Respiratory Intensive Care Unit that same day and has since been on life support.Adam and Bridget now communicate through writing on paper, as Adam's hands and wrists were not affected by paralysis as much as other areas of his body.He has been doing daily occupational and physical therapy and has made progress in being able to hold his head up on his own.A GoFundMe page has been set up for Adam and Bridget.
