URUMQI, June 16 (Xinhua) -- A total of 380 Chinese nationals had returned home aboard Chinese chartered flights as of Tuesday night from southern Kyrgyzstan where ethnic clashes have left some 170 people dead.The Chinese government has sent four chartered planes to bring home nationals including business people and students in Kyrgyzstan. Three chartered planes dispatched on Monday and Tuesday have returned and the fourth one left at 9:37 p.m. Tuesday an airport in Urumqi, capital of northwestern Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region, for Osh of Kyrgyzstan to fly home more Chinese nationals.More than 600 Chinese nationals living around Osh have been sent to the city's airport with help from the Chinese Foreign Ministry and the Chinese embassy in Kyrgyzstan. China Southern Airlines, which is entrusted to operate the flights, selected some of its best pilots and crew members for the evacuation mission."We have carefully prepared for the navigation and landing of the chartered planes," said Hou Junxue, captain of the first plane who has a flight experience of more than 30 years. The chartered planes also carried food, medicine, oxygen and medical equipment.The first two chartered planes returned to Urumqi at about 4:25 a.m. (Beijing time) and 5:18 a.m. (Beijing time) respectively on Tuesday, bringing home 195 nationals, mostly women and children.The third chartered plane landed at Urumqi airport at 10:50 p.m (Beijing time)Tuesday, carrying another 185 Chinese nationals."I did not expect that the government would send chartered planes to take us back home," Song Wuyi, a businessman selling stationery in Osh, told Xinhua upon arrival. "We feel at ease back in the motherland.""Many people shed happy tears when they see the plane arriving in Osh," said Song, whose store was forced to close after the unrest."Thank the government for taking us back and thank all of you," said Ahmet, a Uygur man in his forties. "This is the first time I thank our motherland......and I will remember this experience forever.""Many of my Kyrgyz clients in Osh admire me being a Chinese," said Kamijiang, who does fodder business in Kyrgyzstan.

BEIJING, June 13 (Xinhua) -- China values its traditional friendship with Zimbabwe and hopes to push forward relations between the two countries as well as the two armed forces, said Chinese Defence Minister Liang Guanglie here on Sunday.Liang made the remarks in a meeting with Zimbabwean Commander of Defence Forces Constantine Guveya Chiwenga.Liang hailed the traditional friendship between the two countries. He spoke of Zimbabwe's defence forces as a "good friend and partner" of People's Liberation Army (PLA).Since the establishment of China-Zimbabwe diplomatic ties 30 years ago, cooperation between the two nations had continuously deepened in the areas of politics, economics and trade, culture, education and health, Liang said.China expressed appreciation for Zimbabwe's firm adherence to the one-China policy and its support to China's peaceful reunification, said Liang. He also thanked Zimbabwe for support on issues concerning China's core and major interests.Chiwenga expressed appreciation for China's long-standing support to Zimbabwe in various areas. BEIJING, July 28 (Xinhua) -- Profits at Chinese industrial enterprises in 24 regions climbed 71.8 percent year on year to 1.61 trillion yuan (237.5 billion U.S. dollars) in the first six months, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Wednesday.The growth rate was 11.2 percentage points lower than that in the first five months, the NBS said in a statement.Combined revenues for the enterprises totaled 25.9 trillion yuan in the first half of the year, up 36.5 percent from a year earlier - a growth rate 2.4 percentage points lower than in the January-to-May period.Most of the 39 major industries posted year-on-year profit growth.The 24 regions comprise all of the Chinese mainland provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions except the Inner Mongolia and Tibet autonomous regions; Hunan, Guangdong, Hainan and Yunnan provinces; and Chongqing.China's industrial value-added output expanded 17.6 percent year on year in the first half of the year. But month-on-month growth began to slow in March, with June's growth at 13.7 percent year on year.

BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- Urban residents who expect home prices to fall in first-tier Chinese cities in the second quarter outnumber those who anticipate further price hikes, according to a report by the China Economic Monitoring and Analysis Center released here Thursday.About 41 percent of those surveyed in the second quarter expected house prices to fall in popular first-tier cities like Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou and Shenzhen -- 18 percentage points higher than the proportion in the first quarter, according to the center which is under the National Bureau of Statistics.Meanwhile, only 36 percent of those surveyed in the second quarter anticipated house prices to continue to rise in those first-tier cities -- 24 basis points lower than the first quarter.In the second quarter, more people are expecting house prices to decline in cities at various levels, even as the proportions vary in different cities, according to the report.About 30 percent of consumers in provincial capital cities anticipated home prices to weaken in the second quarter, compared with 15 percent in the first quarter.In other small- and medium-sized cities, 28 percent of consumers surveyed foresaw house price falling in the future, up more than 11 basis points from the first quarter."The result show government measures to tighten the housing market since mid April have begun to have an effect on urban consumers' expectations," said Pan Jiancheng, deputy director of the China Economic Monitoring and Analysis Center.In spite of the rising proportions, the number of those who anticipated house price declines, however, still fell short of those who expected further price hikes in cities, except for consumers in the first-tier cities, according to the report.Housing prices in major Chinese cities rose 10.3 percent year on year in July, compared with 11.4 percent growth in June, according to NBS data released Tuesday.Property prices in 70 large and medium-sized cities grew 12.4 percent in May and 12.8 percent in April, the highest growth rate since July 2005 when the government started publishing the data.
