SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Covid Clinic’s debut in San Diego County was a little rocky in April when it was shut down by Dr. Wilma Wooten, the county’s public health officer.Fast forward to today, the operation seems to be running smoothly in both La Mesa and Downtown San Diego.“Since we were one of the first to open in San Diego County, there were some things that were brought to our attention that the county wanted,” said Covid Clinic CEO, Matt Collins. “So once we met each of the items that they were requesting, we’ve been able to continue testing without any issues.”Wooten sent a letter to Covid Clinic stating that the first site at MiraCosta College in Cardiff needed to shut down because the proper credentials to operate were not provided to the county. Covid Clinic offers three different tests, and Collins said they guarantee quick results.“We understand how important it is to get a result quickly,” said Collins.The antibody and antigen tests come with rapid results in just 60 minutes for 0.The nasal swabs require lab testing, but results can still be provided within the same day, the next day, or two days, however, it is a bit pricier.“The price varies from 375 dollars for a guaranteed two-day turnaround to 425 dollars for same-day turnaround. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - As businesses continue to reopen, it's becoming the newest requirement for entry: your signature.Step into any of three Gila Rut salons in the county, and you'll see COVID-19 safety is being taken seriously. Clients' temperatures are taken. Their hands are sanitized. Their personal effects are placed in a bag. In another bag is everything needed for their appointment, from combs to scissors."So they can feel comfortable that when they sit down, everything has been sanitized for them," said Gila Rut President Keri Davis-Duffy.Inside the salon: masks, social distancing, and capes disposed of after each appointment. The owners are intent on protecting clients, staff and also, the business. A day head of an appointment, clients are emailed a waiver."They have to sign a waiver releasing Gila Rut of any liability should anybody contract COVID-19," said David-Duffy.Davis-Duffy is hardly alone. At the Point Loma Sports Club, set to open Friday, a liability waiver is also required before you can enter. Across the county and country, at salons, gyms, offices and even the New York Stock Exchange, waivers are quietly becoming the new normal. It's unclear how much they're really needed. Attorneys tell us it would be hard to prove a business caused an illness. and the waivers don't protect a business against 'gross neglience.'"If someone signs a waiver, that means they agree not to hold someone else responsible for any damages. What we're seeing here are businesses trying to avoid liability when a patron is exposed to covid-19 at their place of business. Waivers are not, however, ironclad. For a business to be protected, the business must show that such a waiver was signed and that it covers the potential claim. Even if a business shows that, a waiver is invalid if the business was grossly negligent or reckless. Also, a person could challenge a waiver by claiming it was signed under duress or that it was unconscionable," said attorney Evan Walker.For Davis-Duffy, the waiver is simply another precaution."We're in a vulnerable business ... SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- California health officials released new guidelines for indoor and outdoor youth sports, whether it is school-related, community sponsored, or club sports.The new guidance from the state’s Department of Public Health also applies to recreational adult sports.According to the state, inter-team competitions will not be allowed until Jan. 25, 2021, at the earliest. State officials will revisit this plan during the first week of January to see if any changes need to be made.Players and teams are allowed to practice, but health and safety measures -- such as social distancing -- must be in place.In the new guidelines, sports are categorized by indoor or outdoor, and then they are classified under three categories: low-contact, moderate-contact, and high-contact. The sports are then grouped based on risk tier.For San Diego County, which is in the state’s purple tier as of Dec. 15, only outdoor low-contact sports -- which includes golf, tennis, and swimming -- are allowed to compete.Once the county reaches the red tier, sports like baseball, softball, and cheerleading will be able to compete.Sports such as basketball, football, soccer, and volleyball would not be allowed to compete until San Diego County is in the state’s orange tier.The state’s new guidance comes months after children, parents, and coaches held rallies and voiced their frustrations about not being able to play.Because of the state’s rules, many teams -- specifically baseball and soccer -- have traveled to states like Arizona to play competitively because of less strict rules.Under California’s new guidance, teams can only compete against teams from the same county, and they cannot compete outside of the state.Click here to view the state's complete guidelines 1777

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Dangerous rescues are on the rise on the cliffs along San Diego's coastline.Broken bones, medical emergencies, even death: these are just some of the calls to San Diego Lifeguards, tasked with performing these rescues. According to a recent Team10 investigation, those calls to lifeguards have doubled in the past four years."We're out here assisting people on a weekly basis," lifeguard Lt. Rick Romero said. "It's pretty dangerous; people can fall, people have fallen, people have died, people have suffered traumatic injuries."Romero said lifeguards average 70 to 100 rescues a year at Sunset Cliffs and Black's Beach. The less-serious calls have been anything from people getting stuck, to medical emergencies, to hikers simply getting lost. The more serious calls involved traumatic injuries and death.RELATED: Cliff, air rescues on the rise in San Diego CountyAccording to data 10News requested from the San Diego Fire-Rescue Department and San Diego Lifeguards, there have been 74 cliff rescue calls from June 2017 to the beginning of October 2018. Of those calls, nine serious injuries and one death have occurred this year at Sunset Cliffs. Black's Beach had 11 serious injury calls.Romero said the uptick could be explained as the secret spots no longer being secret."We've seen population growth, tourism growth, social media growth...all affect just more people coming down," Romero said.Lifeguards are on duty 24/7 to help in these situations. Cliff rescues have become so common, rope skills are now as basic for them as work in the water.Carrying 40 to 50 pounds of gear each, typically seven lifeguards and three trucks respond to most cliff rescues. Romero said while each rescue is different, most take 45 minutes to an hour to complete.Resources are pulled from other areas along the beach. If rescue crews need to use a helicopter, the cost is more than ,000 an hour to operate.The rescues are paid for by taxpayers, provided by the city, no matter if the patient is a victim of an accident or reckless."We just ask people to bring their cell phones, pay attention to where they're going, have sturdy footwear," Romero said. 2193
