LONDON, Jan. 14 (Xinhua) -- The British business sector was pleased at the successful visit this week of Chinese Vice Premier Li Keqiang which concluded on Wednesday.During the four-day visit, Li signed business agreements with an estimated value of more than 4 billion U.S. dollars with the British government."China is vital to the UK economy. China is now the world's largest goods exporter and the UK's largest goods export market outside the U.S. and EU. SUZHOU, Jiangsu, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Public Security (MPS) has announced that the special campaign to crackdown on prostitution has been effective, with cases of prostitution and obscene performances in entertainment venues in October dropping 18.4 percent on a month-on month basis.The campaign in the latter half of the year attached increased importance to the investigation and punishment of the organizers of prostitution.The campaign also targeted business operators and the "protective umbrellas" - sometimes local government officials - that allow prostitution to happen, according to a document released at a ministry work conference in Suzhou Saturday.More effort must be made to educate and rehabilitate women involved in the prostitution and obscene performance cases, the document said.According to the document, the MPS sent 27 groups of inspectors to 651 entertainment business venues in four municipalities and 20 provinces during the campaign. At some 381 of the venues, cases of prostitution or obscene performance were discovered.In July, the ministry sent 10 inspection groups to eight cities in Jilin, Shanghai, Guangdong, Hainan, Sichuan and Shaanxi, to raid 10 entertainment venues, resulting in the arrest of 370 suspects.In the following three months, the ministry and local police solved 54 major cases, the document said.

BEIJING, Dec. 11 (Xinhua) -- China's retail sales of consumer goods grew 18.7 percent in November year on year, the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) said Saturday.Retail sales of consumer goods stood at 1.39 trillion yuan (208.1 billion U.S. dollars) in November and the growth rate was 0.1 percentage points higher than that in October, the NBS spokesman Sheng Laiyun said at a press conference.Retail sales of consumer goods in the January-to-November period reached 13.92 trillion yuan, up 18.4 percent from the same period last year.The growth rate in the January-to-November period was 0.1 percentage points higher than that in the January-to-October period.The NBS said urban consumption hit 1.2 trillion yuan in November, up 19 percent year on year.Rural residents spent 186.5 billion yuan on consumption goods in November, up 17 percent year on year.In breakdown, catering sector sales rose 19.6 percent to 160.1 billion yuan in November from a year earlier, while retail sales increased 18.6 percent to 1.23 trillion yuan in November year on year.
