LA JOLLA, Calif. (KGTV) - A flurry of reports about a foul odor in the La Jolla and Clairemont neighborhoods had San Diego Fire-Rescue crews busy Wednesday afternoon.Crews had at least six calls about possible gas leaks starting about 3:30 p.m. Three calls came from La Jolla, a fourth was just east of U.C. San Diego, a fifth call in University City, and a sixth came from Clairemont. Firefighters found no evidence of a gas leak. Initially, a spokesperson for the Fire Department said she believed the smell could be coming from a kelp bloom off La Jolla. After a night of drinking in Morgantown, West Virginia, Bachman opted to use an Uber.Little did Bachman know that rather than returning to his friends' place in Morgantown, Bachman was on a 300-mile journey back to his New Jersey home, according to NJ.com.According to the NJ.com report, Bachman passed out in the passenger seat of a 2011 Honda Odyssey, hours into his costly journey home. When he awakened, instead of just getting out and be stranded in the middle of no where, he decided to keep going."I just woke up," Bachman told NJ.com. "And I'm thinking, 'Why the f--- am I in the car next to some random a** dude I don't even know?"Besides the accidental 300-mile trip, Bachman had to pay extra because he had mistakenly requested an UberXL, and it was surge pricing. Had it not been surge pricing, Bachman would have paid just 9.14, NJ.com reported. Bachman told NJ.com that his driver did not have money to pay for the unexpected tollbooths, so Bachman stopped at a CVS ATM to give the driver cash to use for tolls on the return trip.Although Bachman gave the driver 5 Stars, he protested the charge to Uber, claiming he never put his home address in New Jersey into the app. Uber told NJ.com that the dispute has been resolved, and that Bachman agreed to pay the fare.  1419

Kentucky Speaker of the House Jeff Hoover resigned from his position Sunday amid sexual harassment allegations, saying he had made "mistakes."Hoover, who The Courier-Journal newspaper in Louisville reported had secretly settled a sexual harassment allegation by a woman on his legislative staff, did not resign as a state representative, however, and has denied all allegations."I did make mistakes, in that I engaged in inappropriate text messages," the Republican lawmaker said at a press conference announcing his decision. "I engaged in banter that was consensual, yet make no mistake, it was wrong on my part to do that. And for that I am truly sorry."The Courier-Journal was the first to report Hoover's settlement last week, citing sources with direct knowledge of the matter. The settlement involved three other Republican state representatives and Hoover's chief of staff, the newspaper reported.Hoover and his accuser, whom the Courier-Journal has not identified because she says she was sexually harassed, declined to comment, as did a lawyer for the woman, the newspaper said.Hoover asked for the public's forgiveness in a tearful statement on Sunday, saying, "To say that the past few weeks and days have been trying and difficult for me and my family would be an understatement."Kentucky's House speaker pro tempore, Republican David Osborne, said in a statement that he will be assuming operational control of the chamber as acting speaker.Hoover's resignation comes a day after Kentucky Gov. Matt Bevin, also a Republican, called for "the immediate resignation of every individual who has settled a sexual harassment case, who is party to trying to hide this type of behavior."In a press conference Saturday, Bevin drew a "clear line in the sand for every elected official in Kentucky. Just because you're bankrupt doesn't mean you don't need a hand during the holiday season.Toys R Us, which filed for bankruptcy on Monday night, announced Thursday that it is looking to fill at least 13,000 positions nationwide for the upcoming holiday season.The toy retailer didn't give the total number of seasonal workers it plans to hire, but said it is looking for 3,800 workers in the New York area, 2,400 in greater Los Angeles as well as 2,400 at a warehouse in Groveport, Ohio that is run by DHL. It is also looking for about 1,000 workers each in the Philadelphia, Chicago and Boston markets as well as 900 work at home call center employees.Hiring workers just for the holidays will be harder for retailers this year since unemployment at at 4.4%, near a 16-year low. There are currently a record number of unfilled job openings according to Labor Department statistics. To fill the jobs in the current environment, Toys R Us has sweetened its pay package to offer employees weekend pay rates on peak holiday shopping days, as well as additional employee discounts said spokesman Joseph Contrino.Earlier this week Walmart, the nation's largest private sector employer, said that instead of hiring seasonal employees this year it will give?its existing part-time employees more hours.Toys R Us has nearly 1,000 Toys R Us and Babies R Us stores across the United States and Canada, and filed for bankruptcy protection on Monday.
