— and maybe all politicians — at a vigil for the mass shooting victims Sunday night. Many in the crowd of hundreds chanted “Do something! Do something!” while DeWine was at the podium promising to do “everything that we can... to tell you that we care.""We are here tonight because we know that we cannot ease the pain of those families who have lost someone," DeWine said. "We also know that we want do something."Before the vigil, DeWine spoke one-on-one to WCPO anchor Tanya O’Rourke and said he instructed his team to look at mental health issues in light of early Sunday's shootings outside bars at the Historic Oregon District.WATCH O'Rourke's report:As for restricting weapons, DeWine told O’Rourke this:"Three things have to take place. "Number one, it has to be constitutional. Number two, it has to pass in the state legislature. It does no good for me to come up with a plan if it can't pass. "And number three, it has to help. It has to work or improve the situation. If we can do all of those things, we ought to be doing it."This story was originally published on 1081

With several games postponed this weekend, MLB will need to reschedule contests at some point to fit in its condensed 60-game schedule. In an effort not to exhaust players from squeezing in makeup games, MLB will allow for seven-inning doubleheaders effective Saturday. The MLB Players’ Association joined the MLB in making Friday’s announcement.“Given the frequency of doubleheaders, the effects of doubleheaders on rosters, and the need to reschedule games due to dynamic circumstances, both the Clubs and the Players have determined that this step promotes player health and safety,” MLB and the MLBPA said in a joint statement. If games as part of a doubleheader are tied after seven innings, MLB’s new extra inning rule of placing a base runner at second base will be in effect.Seven-inning twin bills are common in the minors and other levels of baseball. An onslaught of doubleheaders may be necessary this season given that just one week into the coronavirus-shortened season, both the Marlins and Cardinals have dealt with multiple COVID-19 cases forcing the postponements. The Marlins have not played since last Sunday and are not scheduled to return to play until Tuesday. The outbreak involving the Marlins also forced the Phillies to postpone four of their games this week. A scheduled contest between the Brewers and Cardinals was postponed for tonight. 1371

on Friday. Members of Congress and President Donald Trump have also been briefed by U.S. officials, the Washington Post added. Sanders addressed the Washington Post's report while campaigning in California on Friday. Sanders warned Putin to "stay out of American elections."“Unlike Donald Trump, I do not consider Vladimir Putin a good friend," Sanders said. "He is an autocratic thug who is attempting to destroy democracy and crush dissent in Russia. Let’s be clear, the Russians want to undermine American democracy by dividing us up and, unlike the current president, I stand firmly against their efforts, and any other foreign power that wants to interfere in our election."It is unclear to how exactly the Kremlin is trying to boost Sanders' campaign. US officials have been investigating Russian involvement in domestic presidential elections since the 2016 election. Special Counsel Robert Mueller brought charges against 13 Russian officials for conspiring to defraud the United States. Mueller alleged that Russian oligarchs conspired to help Trump get elected. 1074

Worldwide furniture retailer IKEA announced Wednesday plans to stop the sale of alkaline batteries at all of its stores in lieu of rechargeable batteries, which the companies says is better for the environment. The retailer estimates it sells 300 million non-rechargeable alkaline batteries per year. IKEA said that alkaline batteries will no longer be available at stores by October 2021.According to IKEA, reusing a NiMH battery 50 times, the impact of NiMH batteries is equal to or even less than the impact of alkaline batteries. IKEA says its LADDA battery can be recharged up to 500 times.IKEA added that if each rechargeable battery is reused 50 times, global waste could be reduced by as much as 5,000 tons on an annual basis.“Consumers who need to frequently use batteries can benefit by replacing alkaline with rechargeable batteries. There are substantial savings to be made over time – on the environment as well as their wallets. IKEA globally sold about 300 million alkaline batteries last year, so we see great potential to inspire our customers to adopt new behaviors and use rechargeable batteries to their full potential,“ says Emelie Knoester, Business Area Manager at IKEA Range & Supply. 1219
