A child in Galion, Ohio tested positive for meth on Sunday, just hours after trick or treating in the small town located between Columbus and Cleveland, WBNS-TV reported. According to the Galion Police, the boy is expected to make a full recovery after suffering a seizure. The boy reportedly was sickened after playing with fake teeth that were given to him while trick or treating. The boy's father reportedly said that the boy only had a few pieces of candy before getting sick. The Galion Police has not confirmed how the boy became sick from meth, and an investigation is underway. In the meantime, the police department has issued a warning to its residents. "We encourage parents to thoroughly check any candy your children may have received before they eat it," the Galion Police Department said. An expert on Halloween sadism, Joel Best, has previously said that intentional tainting of trick or treat candy is generally rare.“There is this fear out there, and it is terribly overblown,” Best said. “They are worried that some maniac will hand them a contaminated treat, and I can’t find any evidence that has ever resulted to a death or serious injury.” 1201

The question at hand: Where should a 7,000-pound elephant live?The legal issue pits an elephant sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tenn. against the woman who raised Tarra the elephant since she was a baby.The case went to trial just this week and ended with a hung jury, so the fate of Tarra -- perhaps the best known of the Sanctuary's elephants -- remains in limbo.Tarra is an Asian elephant. Many remember the story from a decade ago of Tarra and her loyal canine companion, Bella. She was the first elephant at the Sanctuary in Hohenwald, brought there by co-founder Carol Buckley in 1995.Years earlier, Buckley took ownership of Tarra from a businessman in California."It was an instantaneous attraction to each other. She needed a mother. She was a baby, and I was happy to fill that role," Buckley said.This led to Buckley starting the sanctuary, but after several years, Buckley was ousted. She left Tarra there knowing it was the best place for her at the time.Now, Buckley operates a new sanctuary in Georgia. She said she never surrendered Tarra, has worried about her welfare in Hohenwald, and is suing to get her back."The lawsuit is very simple. It says I own Tarra," said Buckley.Legal expert Jim Todd said this is the first-of-its-type case in Tennessee.Todd said there's the custody issue, but he added there's also the question of whether Buckley abandoned Tarra.She said no and added her concern has always been what's best for the elephant."I'm going to put her wherever it is best. If Georgia is better for her, I would move her to Georgia," Buckley said. "If Tennessee is better, I would leave her in Tennessee."The two-day trial this week in Lewis County ended with a hung jury. Ten jurors voted to return Tarra to Buckley with two others saying no. A retrial likely won't happen until 2019.Asian elephants typically have a lifespan of 48 years. Tarra is 44 years old.The Elephant Sanctuary issued the following statement saying in part, "We remain fully committed and exist to provide home, herd and individualized lifetime care to all residents of the Sanctuary, as we have done for the past 23 years." 2211

A Florida mother says her daughter was denied lunch on the first day of school because she didn't have money to pay a 15 cent debt.Kimberly Aiken told WKMG-TV in Orlando that her daughter, a sophomore at University High School in Orange City, Florida, was told that she owed 15 cents when she went through the lunch line on the first day of school this week. When she told the cashier that she didn't have any money on her, the cashier allegedly threw the food away.Aiken's daughter did not eat anything for the rest of the school day.According to CBS News, Aiken signed her daughter up for a free and reduced-cost lunch program at University High School. A Dearborn Heights police officer is the focus of a viral video, which appears to show him sleeping behind the wheel of his cruiser.Dearborn Heights Chief of Police Lee Gavin has confirmed that an internal investigation will take place. Sources confirm the video was shot by a citizen last Wednesday. They also say it’s not the first time the officer has been spotted snoozing.Citizens have said they are disappointed and stunned to see the video. Some are also concerned about the health and safety of the officer. “It’s bad. Without knowing all the details, yes it’s dangerous,” former Detroit Police Asst. Chief Steve Dolunt said.Dearborn Heights Police declined to go on camera over the weekend due to the Memorial Day holiday, however, sources say an internal review will be conducted this week.  854
