SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A suspect who reportedly sexually assaulted a female student at Mesa College has been taken into custody Friday night, according to the San Diego Community College Police.The sexual assault happened around 1:30 p.m. on the grassy area outside the Mesa College LRC.The suspect reportedly walked with the woman before pinning her down in the grass and trying to put his hand down her pants and under her shirt.Police released no further details about the suspect Saturday.  509

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A similar Observation Wheel to those in England and Paris could come to Balboa Park for a short term stay.The Cohn Restaurant Group and Sky Views of America presented the idea of the Balboa Park Star to the Balboa Park Committee Meeting on October 1.They hope the wheel would attract more visitors and re-energize the park."We have operated these observation wheels during the pandemic," Vice President of Sky Views of America Ben Pickett said.The gondolas are enclosed and climate controlled. According to the presentation, they are sanitized after each ride and safety protocols comply with state, local and CDC guidelines. Masks would be required for passengers and staff. The presentation was met with excitement by the committee."I love the fact it is innovative and outside the box," Committee Member Victoria Curran said. "This is a terrific idea, I love it!" Committee Member Johanna Schiavoni added."Sometimes it's the craziest ideas that are the best ones," Committee Member Micah Parzen said. He cautioned there were concerns that needed to be worked out, like where and how much room the wheel would take up, if the wheel would take income away from competing museums and the juxtaposition of historic versus modern aesthetics.Pickett said they are working on promotions with the museums as well as discounts for families and military members.David Cohn compared the Balboa Park Star to the London Eye, La Grande Roue in Paris, or the Belfast Eye in Ireland.Most visitors at Balboa Park who spoke with ABC 10News like the idea."I think it would be super super cool, I would totally ride it," Visitor Erin Medina from Reno said excitedly."At first I thought, huh, seems more like a carnival than beautiful historic Balboa Park, but as you mentioned the Ferris wheel came here in 1915, so it might be kind of cool to bring it back, especially during the pandemic," San Diegan Clare Siragusa said.The R-50 is a modern wheel with gondolas that can seat eight people. The cost is estimated - per rider and tickets would be sold online and at the attraction.The proposed location is in the Plaza de Panama, near the Museum of Art."Anything that's for the kids, anything that's kind of easy, accessible entertainment, I support," San Diegan Samantha Pearson said.Entertainment at 148 feet in the air, just 52 feet short of the California Tower.The next presentation will be for the Balboa Park Cultural Partnership Board October 28. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A virtual job fair for Camp Pendleton Marines, their spouses, veterans, and members of the reserve and guard is set for Thursday.Organizer RecruitMilitary says more than 35 employers will attend, and more than 400 job seekers have already signed up. The jobs run the gamut from full to part-time, telecommuting, and include local and national employers. The City of Carlsbad and the San Diego County Sheriff's Department will be there recruiting. Other employers include Northrop Grumman, ADT, Spectrum and Eli Lilly. "We have employers that have made the transition themselves," said Jennifer Hadac, a Navy veteran organizing the fair for RecruitMilitary. "A lot of them are veterans themselves or military spouses or members of the military community, so they understand the challenges that they face, they speak the lingo, so it kind of bridges the gap for them."The nationwide Veteran unemployment rate is now at a seasonally adjusted 8 percent, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reports. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A simple gesture of kindness can make someone’s day or even save a life. “This one is Detecting Divas.” It all began with a book club. “That one is sisters of sleuth.”That Evie Arnold began hosting for seniors over a decade ago. “It’s all mysteries.”The women are all over 60.“There are so may single women that don’t have anybody, that I decided they should email me every day or text me every day just so I know everybody is ok.”But a couple of months ago, one of those emails didn’t come in.“I was making the change from landline to smartphone, but there was a glitch, I was without a telephone, deathy ill with no one to contact anybody.”Bookclub member Susan Lipp laid in her bed with no food, no water, just fear.“When you’re alone and you live alone with no family, I lay there and I thought after a couple days or so, I’m not going to get out of this. And I hope someone takes care of my kitties.”Evie called for a wellness check, and Susan was rushed to the hospital with a critical gastrointestinal condition.“She literally saved my life.”“It feels good to know that I’m 73 years old and I can still do good, be useful.”But that wasn’t the first time her compassion saved a life.When one neighbor's newspapers began stacking up, she knocked on the door only to hear the dogs barking and called for another welfare check.“I ran into her kids in the front yard and talked about time. I called the police on her, and they said you saved her life!”She urges everyone to pay attention to their neighbors, especially seniors.“Most police departments have volunteers that will take a look, and you might end up saving someone’s life too.”Susan believes everyone should join a book club. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A thief struck an ugly chord with residents in a Del Cerro neighborhood, after zeroing in on a porch and warming up his pipes.    Just off College Avenue, Katherine - who asked us not to reveal her full name - says the first feeling was confusion when she and her husband returned home from Julian on Saturday night.  On their porch, the couple says they found an opened letter addressed to a man in El Cajon. When they looked at the surveillance video, they saw him:  a casually dressed man pulls up in a pickup truck.            "He is holding the letter so he has a plan, a story if anybody stops him," said Katherine.On the video, the man heads right for the package at the front door and swipes it.  He throws the package in the truck, tosses the letter and as gets back into the truck, he appears to belt out a note.  As he backs out of the driveway, he keeps on singing."The singing clearly shows he's completely comfortable, really cocky...just going to his next gig.  I think it's his weekend job," said Katherine.Katherine can't help but smile about the likely sour note he experienced once he looked inside and found - a dog brush and mug.  Now she's hoping the video will lead to an arrest."He's clearly done this before.  No doubt he's out doing this again," said Katherine. 1414
