SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Too many people are on the waiting list for a second chance at life.San Diego's organ donation group, Lifesharing, says the city and country are facing an organ shortage. In San Diego alone more than 2,000 people are on the waiting list. "There's never going to be enough organs but more people need to talk about organ donation so there can be more organs," said Lisa Stocks, Lifesharing Executive Director.On Friday, transplant recipients gathered to raise awareness about the issue and celebrate their new birthdays made possible because of organ donation.People can register to become donors on the Lifesharing website or at the DMV.You can also become a living donor by giving someone one of your kidneys. 742

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two inmate deaths in San Diego detention facilities this year are being attributed to drug overdoses and called accidental.The first occurred on July 20 at the San Diego Central Jail, where Michael Hossfeld, 41, was found unresponsive in his cell, according to the San Diego Sheriff's Department. Deputies began life-saving measures and Hossfeld was taken to a nearby hospital, where he remained in a coma and on life support until Aug. 3.The county medical examiner this week determined Hossfeld had died from anoxic encephalopathy due to acute fentanyl toxicity and ruled his death an accident.Hossfeld had been in custody for 691 days and was charged with multiple crimes, including robbery.On Aug. 26, deputies at George Bailey Detention Facility found Jose Sevilla, 39, unresponsive in his cell. Deputies began CPR, but he was pronounced dead shortly after he was found.The medical examiner report said that Sevilla died from acute heroin intoxication and his death was also deemed an accident.Sevilla had been in jail since May 30 on drug- and theft-related charges.SDSO did not provide any further information regarding the deaths.According to the Associated Press, there have been at least 13 in-custody deaths in San Diego jails this year. 1275

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Two more women have come out to share their stories of clergy child sex abuse publicly. Cousins Judith Louise-Worachek and Cathie Ray say the abuse happened decades ago while attending school at St. Jude in Southcrest.Each alleges they were abused multiple times by Priest Gregory Sheridan, who is named on a Diocese of San Diego list of priests with credible allegations against them. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- With the help of witnesses, a driver was arrested late Wednesday night after police said he crashed into several parked cars before taking a U-turn and crashing head-on into another vehicle.According to San Diego police, the incident began at around 11 p.m. on University Avenue in North Park.Cell phone video captured by a witness shows the driver hitting parked cars before trying to leave the scene. He then ends up on the wrong side of the street, where he then crashes into another car, the video shows.The man gets out of the car and tries to run away, but witnesses detained him until police arrived.The driver was taken to a hospital and is suspected of driving under the influence.A woman in the car hit head-on was also taken to a hospital with minor injuries. 798
