ULAN BATOR, Aug. 3 (Xinhua) -- A group of children from China's earthquake-stricken Qinghai province arrived in Mongolia on Tuesday for an eight-day visit.A ceremony was held at the Nairamdal international children's center, 27 km from the capital city of Ulan Bator, to welcome the 59 children and youngsters from Qinghai in western China, which was hit by a major earthquake in April.Prime Minister Batbold Sukhbaatar invited the children from the quake-hit region for a visit in early June when Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao visited Mongolia.Last year, 60 children from China's southwestern Sichuan province, which was also hit by a deadly earthquake in 2008, visited Mongolia at the invitation of then Prime Minister Bayar Sanjaa.

HANOI, July 23 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Foreign Minister Yang Jiechi made five proposals to the 17th ASEAN Regional Forum (ARF) here on Friday to enhance regional security.Firstly, Yang said countries should bear in mind the overall situation and interests when dealing with sensitive regional issues, and always safeguard the regional peace and stability.Secondly, Yang said countries should adopt a new security concept by seeking cooperation instead confrontation, and respecting and taking care of each other's core interest and security.Thirdly, countries should respect each other, strengthen political mutual trust, improve and develop long-term, healthy and stable relations.Fourthly, countries should exercise restraint when disputes arise and settle disputes through peaceful means.Fifthly, countries should make use of multilateral mechanism like Shanghai Cooperation Organization, ASEAN Regional Forum and Six-Party Talks to promote common interest and common security.Yang said on one hand, the situation in Asia-Pacific region is generally stable. On the other hand, the unstable and uncertain factors are increasing.Yang said ARF could serve as a security dialogue platform to push for mutual trust among members. BEIJING, Aug. 12 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Health said Thursday the spread of disease is a major public health concern in mudslide-hit Zhouqu County in northwest China, after local health facilities and water resources were damaged in the disaster."Only a small part of the township area was left after the mudslides. A large number of rescue and relief workers and survivors are now living there, increasing the risk of intestinal and respiratory infectious diseases," an unnamed official from the ministry said Thursday.The official said corpses and dead animals buried under the mud may easily decay under the high temperatures, worsening the epidemic-prevention situation.Although wells have been dug up to ensure water supply, the ministry said sterilization work is arduous as the water may be contaminated during transportation and preservation.Vaccines and their refrigeration facilities, along with the networks that report infectious diseases, were destroyed in the mudslides, according to the ministry.However, with the arrival of new refrigerators and various vaccines, the first vaccination center in the county since the disaster has been set up.As of 4:30 p.m. Thursday, the death toll from the mudslides had risen to 1,144 with 600 still missing.Furthermore, the Ministry of Environmental Protection has sent more than 20 experts to Zhouqu in a bid to prevent environmental disasters.The water quality of the Bailong River remains normal, according to the ministry.
