SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Police are investigating a shooting in San Diego’s Corridor area that was reported following a vehicle crash early Tuesday morning.A DoorDash driver told ABC 10News he was on his way to make a delivery when he was involved in a collision with a car on 37th Street and El Cajon Boulevard at around 4 a.m.The other car drove off, and the DoorDash driver followed it to 37th Street and Meade Avenue until the car came to a stop.According to the delivery driver, two men got out of the car and fired shots towards him. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Pacific Beach alone relies on over 4,000 hospitality workers, often working overnight hours.Safety concerns while on the job, closing up, or walking home are an unfortunate reality of the industry.“When you’re out there, and it’s dark, and you can’t see any one thing around you, I can’t tell you how vulnerable you feel, because you’re constantly looking around you," said Marian Novak, Director of the Responsible Hospitality Coalition.Novak has worked in Pacific Beach since 1991 and currently does responsible beverage training for servers. She and other hospitality workers signed up for a three-hour class with IMPACT Personal Safety, a nonprofit based out of Los Angeles committed to ending the cycle of violence.Organized by Discover Pacific Beach, workers were able to learn verbal strategies, awareness skills, and fighting skills.“When people are intoxicated, they literally don’t make the right decisions," said Lisa Gaeta, founder of IMPACT Personal Safety. “Our philosophy is that once you know you can physically defend yourself, then it’s easier to talk your way out. But if you’re afraid that you’re going to be hurt, it's not so easy, which is why we always teach fighting.”Attendees at the class say after just an hour they felt more confident and empowered. 1304

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - More than 140 women, children and their family members will live inside Golden Hall for at least the next three months. The theater's second floor concourse will serve as a temporary bridge shelter while the city installs a new shelter tent at the corner of 17th and Imperial. Father Joe's Villages will manage the shelter, which is to serve as a transition for homeless families to find permanent housing and get on their feet. A recent city report found about 1,500 people were sleeping on San Diego's streets. The families moving into Golden Hall had been living in a bridge tent shelter at 14th and Commercial. That shelter is being removed to make way for a Father Joe's 14-story affordable housing tower. Golden Hall will have on-site residential staff and security 24 hours a day. Deacon Jim Vargas, president of Father Joe's Villages, said Golden Hall's location will present challenges when it comes to delivering key services out of Father Joe's main campus across downtown. He said these next few months will be a good test to see if something longer term could work. "I personally would love, in addition to the tent, to have some brick and mortar," said Vargas. "And if this facility works out well we'd be happy to continue as a service provider."The city is installing the new tent at 17th and Commercial over the next few months. It will cost about million, plus ,000 a month to rent the land. 1441

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Padres fans, long wired to protect themselves from seemingly inevitable heartbreak, are expressing optimism as a team that made the playoffs last season gets bolstered by a series of blockbuster trades.“Just having the opportunity to think about padres baseball in 2021 as one of the perennial teams that everyone is looking at, it’s new territory for all of us," said Padres fan Andy Bolin. “It made me feel special again to have friends across the country saying hey man, those Padres are great. We’re having so much fun watching them. It’s nice to be able to brag for once," said fellow fan Mike Hernandez. In 2020, Fernando Tatis Jr. and Manny Machado each were among the top contenders for the MVP award and pitcher Dinelson Lamet was in the running for the CY Young Award as the best pitcher in the National League. While the team ultimately was eliminated in the playoffs by the eventual World Series champion, the Los Angeles Dodgers, the Padres have become a popular pick by baseball experts as the top candidate to knock the Dodgers off their thrown. And that was before the Padres reported acquisitions of ace pitchers Blake Snell and Yu Darvish."I really felt it was the best looking ball club that I’ve seen in my last 40 years, to be honest with you," Padres legend Randy Jones told ABC 10News about the 2020 team. Jones says he hopes the pandemic wanes enough for San Diego sports fans to return to the stadium at some point during the season. “It is fun to watch, and to see it in person down at Petco Park would be phenomenal for this fans. They’d just love it. They’d go nuts.” 1621
