SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - Residents at the Pacific Heights Condominiums are making sure to lock their balcony doors after a bizarre theft.The theft happened Tuesday just after midnight, according to neighbors.A resident of the complex reported seeing two men climbing down his neighbors balcony with a bike in hand.  Milad Hassibi says he yelled at the two men when he saw them coming down. “The second that happened the guy fell off the ladder and his friend took the bike from him, took off with the bike one direction, and the other guy ran off the opposite way.” Hassibi said.He described the men as looking ragged and possibly homeless.  He put out a warning on social media. He said there were fliers put around the complex. 746

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego City Council voted today on their intent to place a police reform measure on the November ballot.The resolution would create an independent commission on police practices in San Diego, if passed.“Today’s action is a big step in the right direction toward real accountability and transparency,” Council President Georgette Gómez said. “The Council's vote demonstrates our commitment to meaningful public-safety reform. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer announced Thursday that several more shoreline park areas and piers and boardwalks would be reopened this week amid the COVID-19 pandemic.Mayor Faulconer says the following will be reopened in June and July:June 8: East and West Mission Bay Parks will be open for park and water use, including parking lots at 100% capacity.June 8: Fiesta Island opens to pedestrians, dogs, and cyclists only.June 9: All piers and boardwalks within city limits reopen.June 12: Balboa Park Central Mesa reopens and all Balboa Park parking lots open at 100% capacity.July 6: Fiesta Island opens to vehicles.Gatherings are still prohibited and social distancing is still required at beaches and parks. Mayor Faulconer said active sports at the beach are still banned as well."We're continuing to make meaningful progress as we continue to reopen across San Diego," Faulconer said.This week, county beaches allowed visitors to sit, sunbathe, and relax on the sand, in addition to passive activities like walking and running.Ocean activities, like swimming, surfing, kayaking, and paddle-boarding continue to be allowed. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diegans looking to switch careers or get back to work after coronavirus-caused layoffs have a way to get free job training this summer.San Diego Continuing Education is offering free classes in 75 different areas, many of which are focused on high-demand jobs."During difficult economic times that we are about to enter, short term intensive career education is the way to get America back to work," said SDCE President Dr. Carlos Turner Cortez.Anyone in San Diego is eligible to take the classes. SDCE offers training certificates in healthcare, welding, information technology, cybersecurity, culinary arts, clothing, automotives, and more.For Richard Sanchez, who lost his job during the pandemic, it's a chance to start over after a layoff."I'm already 38 years old," Sanchez said. "To have this opportunity helps people out to get a new job and change your career."According to a recent report by SANDAG, around 460,000 people in San Diego have lost their jobs since March 7. The report says unemployment could be as high as 30%.Dr. Cortez said people who are looking for a job should look into continuing education first."It's incumbent on us to make sure that students who are coming through our program are developing the skills necessary to be successful in these career pathways," he said.
