A study released Wednesday by the British Medical Journal claims that vegetarians could have a higher risk of a stroke than meat eaters.The study followed more than 48,000 participants in the UK for nearly 18 years. The study placed participants in three groups: Meat eaters, fish eaters and vegetarians. The study claims that vegetarians were 20 percent more likely to have a stroke than meat eaters, which equaled to be three additional haemorrhagic stroke victims per 1,000 participants. The difference between meat eaters and vegetarians was 10 additional cases of heart disease per 1,000 participants. According to the British Medical Journal, previous studies on the correlation between a vegetarian diet and strokes only reported stroke mortality. In those studies, there was no significant difference between vegetarians and meat eaters in stroke mortality. Amid rescues in devastated areas, officials in the Bahamas raised the death toll from Hurricane Dorian, brought in body bags and coolers and said hundreds of residents remain missing.Officials gave the sobering outlook Thursday as the official toll climbed to 23. But they are expecting many more than that as the extent of the damage becomes clear."Literally hundreds, up to thousands, of people are still missing," Joy Jibrilu, director general of the country's tourism and aviation ministry, told CNN's Michael Holmes.Body bags, additional morticians and refrigerated coolers to properly store bodies are being transported to Abaco and other affected areas, Health Minister Dr. Duane Sands said during a radio interview on Guardian Radio 96.9 FM. Four morticians in Abaco are embalming remains because officials have run out of coolers, he said."The public needs to prepare for unimaginable information about the death toll and the human suffering," Sands said."Make no bones about it, the numbers will be far higher than 23," he said. A missing toddler who went missing in Kentucky was found unharmed and in good condition on Wednesday after being separated from his family for three days. Kenneth Howard, 22 months, was found alive in the area of a strip mine in Floyd County, the Magoffin County Sheriff's Office confirmed. The child was taken to a hospital for an examination. According to Prestonsburg Fire Department Chief Michael Brown, a firefighter heard cries from the child, which helped lead rescuers to Kenneth. "We all got quiet and started calling the child’s name, and at different times, sporadically, he would give us a cry and we had to try to pinpoint his location," Brown told ABC News on Thursday. "We got three or four cries from him, and two of the guys made their way back up the hill and he was sitting up at top of a little flat there."The child was reportedly playing with his father in their yard.
