The figure is 45 percent higher than five years ago.Health officials are particularly concerned by the hike because 30 women had stillbirths due to congenital syphilis, the highest number since 1995.STDs can cause serious health problems if untreated. Syphilis can cause permanent loss of hearing, vision, and neurological issues. "Regular testing and treatment are very important for people who are sexually active, even for people who have no symptoms. (AP) — Lassen Volcanic National Park in northern California has temporarily banned overnight camping in some parts of its park after several interactions between campers and foraging bears. The decision was made to close down back-country camping in the Twin, Rainbow, Swan and Snag Lake areas after multiple visitors reported that bears had come to their campsites and searched their backpacks for food. The Sacramento Bee reported that the areas will remain open for hiking, but the park warns visitors to be careful. The National Park Service website said the policy will not only protect campers but “protect the bears by promoting the offending bear(s) to return to normal foraging behavior.” 724

RICHMOND, Va. — Richmond Police are investigating after someone spray-painted "White Lives Matter" across a statue of black tennis legend Arthur Ashe statue along Monument Avenue in Richmond.Ashe, a Richmond-born tennis star and humanitarian, was the first black man to win U.S Open and Wimbledon titles.Wednesday's incident at the Ashe statue comes after weeks protests against police brutality both in Richmond and around the country.Statues along Monument Avenue honoring Confederate leaders like Robert E.
