SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - It appears traffic along parts of Normal Street in Hillcrest will disappear for good, giving way to the Normal Street Promenade.City Councilmember Chris Ward says the city has signed on for the project as part of the Uptown Bikeways Project with SANDAG.The east side traffic lanes would stay but the lanes on the west side will be replaced by dedicated bike lanes and a pedestrian walkway along a two-block stretch from the Hillcrest Pride Flag to Lincoln Avenue."I'm excited.  Hillcrest is a close-knit community, and this will make it even more social," said Hillcrest resident Madison Layo."A great gathering space for everyone that people can rally around ... show a little pride," said Alex Craig, another Hillcrest resident.Ward says the public space can host events like the weekly farmer's market and Pride gatherings, along with events such as street fairs, movies and concerts.  The proposal also includes 70 extra parking spaces from Lincoln Avenue to Washington Street.  Supporters believe the project could also attract business activity to the area.The Uptown Community Parking District has allocated .8 million for the project.  Community outreach for the project will begin in early 2019 with construction expected to start in 2020. 1307

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — If Pfizer's coronavirus vaccine is approved this week, UC San Diego Health anticipates receiving its first allocation of the vaccine next week.The vaccine will be considered on Thursday by the Food and Drug Administration. Once it receives the vaccine, UC San Diego Health says its first vaccinations could occur shortly after."Assuming the U.S. Food and Drug Administration issues an Emergency Use Authorization tomorrow or Friday, we would anticipate arrival of the first allocation of the Pfizer vaccine to UC San Diego Health next week, with the first vaccinations occurring shortly thereafter," a statement from the hospital system said. Now, a growing number of residents are saying goodbye to cable and satellite, and subscribing to more affordable streaming services. "Really for us, I just felt guilty flipping through those channels all the time because I knew we're paying for them, but at the same time if it's not Game of Thrones we're not really watching anyway," said Jason Stump, who got rid of cable about four weeks ago. Stump, who lives in La Mesa, kept his cable for years because he feared not being able to watch live sports. But everything changed when he discovered that YouTube TV offered Fox Sports San Diego, which carries the Padres, four versions of ESPN, and the local channels. The price tag? a month, down from the 0 he was paying monthly for cable. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - In preparation for one of the most advanced fighter jets in the world, Marine Corps Air Station Miramar is planning security upgrades to its airfield perimeter fence.10News discovered it’s one of nine large-scale construction projects that Miramar will be doing over the next decade."These construction projects here are what enables, that is what brings our national defense policy and strategy to reality," said Public Works Officer Lt. Commander Travis Brinkman.Currently being built in the heart of MCAS Miramar is a 160,000 square foot hangar is designed to hold up to 12 F-35s.It's the first of three hangars planned for the location."The need to provide modern facilities as well as the F-35 has specific requirements, specific systems that need different maintenance, different capabilities within the facility itself to provide that maintenance,” said Brinkman.
