(KGTV) -- Starbucks announced Wednesday that the coffee chain will stop using personal cups amid the coronavirus outbreak. In an open letter, EVP and President Rossann Williams said the stores will continue to honor the 10-cent discount for anyone who brings their own cup or requests “for here” ware. “As part of communities worldwide, we are navigating this situation with nimbleness, learning and adapting as new information is made available,” Williams said. (SAN DIEGO, KGTV) -- Ahead of next week's United Nations Climate Summit, 10News is taking a deeper look at the effects of climate change. Since 1900, global sea level has risen 8 inches, dramatically increasing the odds of coastal flooding and damaging floods from storm surge. According to Climate Central, nearly 5 million people live less than 4 feet above high tide across the United States, and scientists expect roughly another 2 to 7 more feet of sea level rise this century.Imperial Beach is one of the most vulnerable in California to sea-level rise as it experiences flooding during periods of extreme high tides and winter swell. 10News looked into a program designed to give people ample warning, called The Resilient Futures program. The goal is to create a flood alert system through a network of instruments to measure local wave and water levels monitored by the Scripps Institution of Oceanography giving scientists and emergency managers a 3 to 4 day head-start to help determine where extreme tides may occur."It is something people are concerned about, and they want to know how often is this likely to occur. As sea levels continue to rise, what’s the change and risk as time goes on.” says Mark Merrifield, the Director of the Coastal Data Information Program at Scripps Institution of Oceanography. He goes on to say, “just like it helps to have a weather forecast if there’s going to be an extreme rain event or wind event coming up. More and more there’s going to be the value of an ocean flooding event.'A bouy is already two miles off the coast of Imperial Beach transmitting data back to scientists and they hope to one day expand the program to other beaches. 1696

100 days to go before a presidential election, is usually the start of the final sprint before election day. During a pandemic however, uncertainty looms. QUESTION #1 Will voters be engaged? With conventions scaled back or canceled, rallies most likely not taking place and door knocking reduced, campaigns are going to have to get creative on how they reach viewers. Zoom has a place, but is the novelty wearing off?QUESTION #2Who will Joe Biden pick for VP?While this question would be asked in a non-pandemic year, it still is one of the biggest questions in the campaign. QUESTION #3Will mail-in balloting create chaos? In many states, voters will be voting in different ways this election. Are election offices ready? Will it create legal challenges? FINAL THOUGHTS All of this is creating uncertainty and setting the stage to make the presidential debates the most consequential this election. 907

A bipartisan group of lawmakers introduced legislation Wednesday that aims to overhaul the way sexual harassment is treated on Capitol Hill, as fresh stories of misconduct involving sitting members of Congress have rocked Washington this week.Rep. Jackie Speier of California and Sen. Kirsten Gillibrand of New York, both Democrats, unveiled companion bills in the House and Senate to reform the sexual harassment complaint process on the Hill and boost transparency around the sensitive issue. It will also require members and staff to go through mandatory sexual harassment training every year, and seek to give victims and whistleblowers more support. 662
