SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Authorities reached out to the public Thursday for help in identifying a motorist involved in a hit-and-run that killed a pedestrian last week in a Chollas Creek-area neighborhood.The 48-year-old victim was standing next to a parked vehicle along the west curb line of the 5300 block of Chollas Parkway shortly before 1 a.m. Friday when a dark-colored car traveling to the south at high speed on the wrong side of the street hit him, according to San Diego police.Following the fatal impact, the motorist stopped momentarily, then drove off, Officer Robert Heims said.The victim, whose name has been withheld pending family notification, died at the scene.Surveillance cameras captured images of the vehicle -- a four-door sedan, possibly a Lexus or Toyota with a lowered suspension. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - Coroner's officials today said that a worker who fell 60 feet to his death while setting up a stage for the first weekend of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival in Indio was a 49-year-old San Diego man.The worker was identified as Christopher Griffin, according to the Riverside County Coroner's Office. The Riverside County Fire Department reported receiving a call of someone falling from a roof at 9:26 a.m. Saturday near the intersection of Monroe Street and Avenue 50.The venue for the festival, the Empire Polo Club, is located on the southwest corner of that intersection. Griffin was pronounced dead at the scene, fire officials said.In a written statement Saturday, the festival's production company, Goldenvoice, confirmed the death."Today, Goldenvoice lost a colleague, a friend, a family member. Our friend fell while working on a festival stage. It is with heavy hearts and tremendous difficulty that we confirm his passing. He has been with our team for twenty years in the desert and was doing what he loved. He was a hard- working and loving person that cared deeply about his team. As our lead rigger, he was responsible for the countless incredible shows that have been put on at the festival. We will miss him dearly,'' the company said.The Indio Police Department was investigating the death. Officers responding to reports of gunfire shortly after 2:50 a.m. on May 21 found Mario ``Tony'' Bullard lying on a street in the 6200 block of Holabird Street suffering from at least one gunshot wound, according to San Diego police.Paramedics responded, but Bullard was pronounced dead at the scene. SAN DIEGO (CNS) - More than 1.3 million ballots had been received by the San Diego County Registrar of Voters by mid-afternoon today, with around 51,000 votes cast at polling locations so far.The San Diego County Registrar's Office reported 1.36 million ballots collected by mid-afternoon out of the 1.95 million registered voters in the county.With county polling locations open early, about 126,000 residents were able to cast their votes in person over the past four days, the Registar's Office said.Mail-in ballots were sent to all registered voters in the county on Oct. 5, even those who had not requested one. Voters who prefer to cast their ballots at their assigned polling place on Election Day can do so until 8 p.m.An in-person voting location tool can be found on the county's voting website, SDvote.com.County voters also have until 8 p.m. to drop off mail ballots at 125 drop-off locations throughout the county, which can found on the Registrar's website.Registrar of Voters Michael Vu said his office is working with county public health services to ensure the health and safety of election workers and voters. Personal protective equipment and sanitation supplies will be provided to staffers so they can conduct the election process safely.Voters casting ballots in person were instructed to bring a face mask and plan to maintain social distance.Locations of vote centers were chosen and configured to allow for queuing and voting while maintaining six feet of social distance. Jerry Brown today appointed a former Del Mar councilman to the 22nd District Agricultural Association Board of Directors and reappointed two other San Diego County residents to the panel.Brown named Del Mar resident Donald Mosier, 74, to a four-year term on the board that governs the Del Mar Fairgrounds on behalf of the state via a nine-member board of directors. The governor appoints each member of the board to serve a four-year term.The District Agricultural Association is a subdivision of the California Department of Food and Agriculture, charged with holding fairs and exhibitions that highlight "various industries, enterprises, resources, and products of the state," according to the CDFA.The governor reappointed attorney Frederick Schenk, 65, and Lisa Barkett, 59, who have served since 2011.Mosier is the Climate Action Plan facilitator for the city of Del Mar and is a member of multiple governing boards, including the Del Mar Community Connections Board, the American Association for the Advancement of Science and the Climate Action Campaign Board of Directors. He served on the Del Mar City Council from 2008 to 2016 and was a professor at the Scripps Research Institute from 1992 to 2016.Barkett, who was vice president of Merjan Financial Corp. from 1989 to 2013, is a member of the Board of Trustees for both the University of Southern California and Rady Children's Hospital.The appointments do not require confirmation by the state Senate.
