(KGTV) — Life at the Del Mar Fairgrounds could look much different in the future, finding uses for more than horse racing and the county fair.Tuesday night will be the second of three community meetings, in which the fairgrounds will ask the community for input on what the future of the venue should look like.Del Mar Deputy Mayor Terry Gaasterland said the uses can fulfill several regional desires."We also have a responsibility for working with Solana Beach and San Diego and the entire region," Gaasterland said. "How does this fairgrounds meet not just the needs, but the wishes and the wants and the dreams of the San Diego region?"And things are already changing. The Surf Side Race Place is being transformed into an entertainment venue. KAABOO left Del Mar for downtown last year. This year, will be mark the end of fairgrounds gun show. And racing has seen a decline in revenue and attendance."Can the fairgrounds be a leader in doing the racing? DESCANSO, Calif. (KGTV) - Four people were seriously injured and one person is in custody following a pursuit with Border Patrol agents on Interstate 8 in East San Diego County Tuesday.Border Patrol said a blue Ford Expedition failed to yield to a marked vehicle just before 11 a.m. on I-8 near Buckman Springs Rd. The vehicle continued on, at one point reaching over 100 miles per hour, and lost control as it approached slower moving traffic. The Ford then careened off I-8 near Japatul Valley Rd., rolling down a ravine and landing on its roof.Two passengers, who were unrestrained, were ejected from the vehicle and sustained major injuries. Two other passengers sustained minor to moderate injuries. All four were taken to Scripps Mercy Hospital San Diego and Sharp Memorial Hospital.The driver of the car, a 23-year-old U.S. citizen, was uninjured and tried to flee from the crash, Border Patrol said, but he was quickly apprehended and placed in Border Patrol custody.Three of the four passengers are Mexican nationals, according to Border Patrol. The driver has been charged with smuggling.All occupants' names and identities have not been released. 1215

David Turpin and Louise Turpin, the California couple accused of holding their 13 children captive and torturing all but one, are facing additional charges, a prosecution spokesman said Friday.Riverside County District Attorney spokesman John Hall told reporters after a brief court hearing that each Turpin is facing three additional counts of child abuse. DETROIT — The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services is activating an emergency plan in response an outbreak of hepatitis A.The number of cases continues to rise in Michigan. The department is activating what is called the Community Health Emergency Coordination Center."To help coordinate Michigan’s response to the hepatitis A outbreak, we are opening the Community Health Emergency Coordination Center to assist the multiple local public health jurisdictions involved in the response and prevention of further cases," said MDHHS Director Nick Lyon.The emergency coordination center will provide support to health departments, hospitals, EMS and other health care providers.Health care providers are asked to encourage hepatitis A vaccination."We know that the hepatitis A vaccine is more than 90 percent effective in protecting someone who may be exposed to hepatitis A," said Dr. Eden Wells, Chief Medical Executive with the MDHHS. "Without a single source associated with these cases, the importance of vaccination and proper hygiene is vital to ensuring we stop the person-to-person spread of hepatitis A." There have been 457 confirmed cases of hepatitis A since August 1, 2016. This number includes 18 fatalities associated with the outbreak and affected a number of cities; City of Detroit, Huron, Ingham, Lapeer, Livingston, Macomb, Monroe, Oakland, Sanilac, St. Clair, Washtenaw, and Wayne Counties reported to MDHHS.Hepatitis A is an infection of the liver caused by a virus and is a vaccine-preventable disease.Symptoms may appear from two to six weeks after exposure, with the average time being about one month.
