(KGTV) - San Diegans will soon have to press a few more buttons — if they’re not already doing so.Starting May 19, everyone will be required to enter the area code then the 7-digit number when making calls or texts to the 619 or 858 area code. The call or message will not go through if you don’t add the area code prefix. For landlines, there’s one more step for callers. They must enter +1 the area code then the 7-digit number or the call will not be completed. The change was approved last year by the California Public Utilities Commission in an effort to prevent the area from running out of phone numbers. The CPUC expects all 619 prefixed number to be used up by early next year while 858 has approximately 30 years of phone numbers left.Experts suggest reprogramming the number with the proper area code prefix in all services like automatic dialing medical systems and alarm systems. The 619 area code largely serves the city of San Diego and portions of the South Bay, but also East County along with some unincorporated areas. The 858 area code spans north from San Diego into La Jolla, Del Mar and Solana Beach, as well as inland to Rancho Santa Fe, Rancho Bernardo and Poway. This change will not affect emergency calls to 911.  1270

(KGTV) - Were people who accidentally typed in Berniesander.com getting redirected to a donation page for Joe Biden?Yes, but not any more.Until March 11th, Berniesander.com *(missing the 's') took you to a donation page with Joe Biden's presidential campaign logo. If you did it on a phone, you couldn't even see the logo, which made it possible to donate to Biden without even knowing it.But apparently there was serious backlash over this, because the page is now gone if you try to go to it. 503

(KGTV) — Newly released video shows the moment a Portland high school coach disarmed a student who brought a loaded shotgun to school in May.Keanon Lowe, Parkrose High School's head football and track coach, was in a classroom full of students when the gunman, identified as Angel Granados Dias, came in with shotgun on May 17, 2019, according to Portland police. In the video, Lowe brings Dias into a school hallway after appearing to disarm the student. Lowe is seen holding the shotgun before handing it off to another staff member. The coach continues to hold the student and embrace him in a hug, as the staff member leaves with the firearm and students flee from the classroom.Lowe, a former Oregon Ducks football player and NFL coach, says he lunged for the gun with both hands inside the classroom when he realized what was happening. The coach said he told Dias he was there for him and that his life was worth saving. Investigators say Dias was suffering a mental health crisis and only intended to hurt himself, Portland ABC-affiliate KATU reported."Then it was just me and that student. It was a real emotional time. It was emotional for him, it was emotional for me," Lowe told KATU in May. "In that time, I felt compassion for him. A lot of times, especially when you’re young, you don’t realize what you’re doing until it’s over."Dias has since been sentenced to three years probation and to undergo mental health treatment. (KGTV) — While the North Complex Fire has left hundreds of thousands of acres charred, first responders found a sign of hope buried beneath the rubble last week.Butte County Sheriff's Office deputies and search and rescue personnel were sifting through the rubble of properties in the Berry Creek area on Friday, Sept. 11, when they made the unexpected and miraculous discovery.A puppy was discovered underneath blackened and charred remains of a property, according to the department. The puppy had some minor burns and was taken to Valley Oak Veterinary Center in Chico for treatment.BCSO says that the property owner reportedly had several dogs and was not able to locate the one that was left behind before evacuating in time.Deputies decided it was only appropriate to name the dog "Trooper" after finding it alive.A social media post by the department was filled with gratitude and heartwarming messages, as Northern California has seen the North Complex Fire burn 258,802 acres through Butte and Plumas counties since Aug. 18. The fire has killed 12 people. 1072

(KGTV) — Upon President Trump's visit to the Calexico border Friday, Rep. Duncan Hunter requested the President pardon two former Border Patrol agents.Ignacio Ramos, Jr., and Jose Compean were both jailed in 2006, for 11 and 12 years, respectively, on assault with a firearm resulting in great bodily injury and obstruction of justice charges. Both former agents had their sentences communed by former President George W. Bush in 2009.RELATED: President Trump visits Southern California, tours US-Mexico border in CalexicoThe agents were in pursuit of Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila in 2005 near El Paso, Texas, for suspected drug activity. The pursuit became a foot chase when Aldrete-Davila reportedly abandoned his van and tried to run back across the border to Mexico.During the foot chase, Ramos caught up and a struggle began between the two, Hunter's letter stated. Aldrete-Davila broke free and made a run, again, toward the border, during which time both Ramos and Compean opened fire, striking Aldrete-Davila in the buttocks. 1035
