A federal court in Washington, DC, has unsealed five search warrants that special counsel Robert Mueller obtained while investigating Michael Cohen, President Donald Trump's former lawyer and fixer.The newly unsealed documents show how Mueller had a judge's permission to follow the money from Russian sources to Trump's personal lawyer, and had reason to look into Cohen's extensive contacts with Russian government-linked individuals, some of which began on the day Trump won the presidency.The documents are from 2017, before Mueller referred the Cohen investigation to federal prosecutors in Manhattan, and generally show how Mueller was allowed to dive into Cohen's email accounts, including his Trump Organization email address.In a search warrant application from July 2017, prosecutors outlined how Cohen started communicating with a Russian-connected company on Election Day. Over the next year, there were more than 1,000 calls and text messages between Cohen and the CEO of that company, Columbus Nova.In the filing, Mueller's team made it clear that Cohen began contacting the company immediately after the election: "Telephone records show no such text messages or telephone calls between COHEN's cellular telephone and the CEO of Columbus Nova prior to November 8, 2016."Columbus Nova is an American company linked to Viktor Vekselberg, a prominent Russian oligarch. In the documents, prosecutors noted his "various connections to Russian President Vladimir Putin."Despite being investigated for acting as a foreign agent, Cohen was never charged with that crime. The most popular museums in Washington, D.C. are now closed until a deal can be reached to end the government shutdown. Tourist Staci Jones flew to D.C. from Texas to see the African American Museum, the Smithsonian's newest and most popular museum. “It is frustrating that the one thing I wanted to do, I’m not gonna be able to do before I leave,” Jones says. Adonai Mahoungou came to D.C. from Mississippi and also wanted to see the museum.“I was really disappointed because I was getting ready to go to museums, have some fun,” says Mahoungou. “And to see that because of a government shutdown, disappointing, because I was ready! I was excited! Dang.” In addition to all Smithsonian museums being closed, the National Zoo is also closed, including the zoo's popular giant panda web cam. Outside of D.C., the shutdown is forcing some national parks to close because of health and safety concerns. Understaffed parks cannot keep up with overflowing toilets and trash cans. “It was kind of smelling bad down there, and I don't know how it's affecting the park with human waste and everything,” says Yosemite National Park visitor Katie Kensok. As more people start to feel the pain from the shutdown, President Trump and new Congress now face more pressure to come up with a solution. “Being from Texas, I don't work for the government. I didn't think it would affect me that much, but now, I’m starting to see, yeah, it does affect people who don't work for the government in other ways,” says Jones. “I just wish they would come together.” 1557

The challenge #TrashTag is a viral trend taking over social media. People all over are cleaning up the environment and sharing it online. Although a new trend online, it’s something nature lover Caitlin Deporter has already been doing for nearly a decade. The beauty of the outdoors is something Deporter has always cherished. "It's just grown from a young age, an appreciation for everything natural," Deporter says. She spends a lot of her time hiking near the Potomac River in Maryland. "My dad and I usually do our big hiking trips together," she says. Along those hikes, Deporter says she sees a lot of garbage. "There are a lot of beer cans and bottles, I will tell you that," she says. Americans produce more than 250 million tons of waste annually, according to the EPA. However, Deporter is doing one simple thing to curb those statistics. “I'll bring a normal size trash bag and a backpack and get prepared for a day of work,” she says. For the last eight years, on her bi-weekly hikes, she brings a trash bag with her every time, picking up all the litter she sees along the way. "I'm concentrating on getting trash where it's supposed to be," she says. She does something small to help combat a big problem. "I'm just one person; I can only do so much," she says. She’s hoping the #TrashTag movement keeps up, for the sake of the environment."I hope this whole trend really sticks, and it's not just you know people do it for a week to get all their photos in and look all cool, you know,” Deporter says. “I really hope people continue to do it." 1658
