SANTEE, Calif (KGTV) - Edgemore Hospital celebrated the 10th Anniversary of its current facility Wednesday, a milestone in a dramatic turnaround from a reputation that almost led to its closure."You had a hospital that as basically built in the 1920's," County Supervisor Dianne Jacob said in an interview with 10News. "You had a hospital that at times had no air conditioning on days where it was 100 degrees...required a lot of maintenance, held together with bubble gum and baling wire, basically.""It was like a rundown hotel with open windows and animals running around," said patient Glenn Higgins, who spent two years in the old facility. "The nurses were scared to go to certain areas because they said there were ghosts from a lot of people dying."Costs of renovation or replacement were so steep, the County Board of Supervisors almost decided to close Edgemoor and not replace it. However, after being on the verge of making that decision, the Board instead relented and approved the 9 million to build the current facility in Santee.Higgins says that while Edgemoor always had a great staff, the new building has made a big difference in the quality of care. "I thank the lord that I'm here, because I know what it's like out there."In a recent article, Newsweek named Edgemoor the best nursing home of its kind in California, and among the best in the nation."If you take good care of the people in the community who are the most vulnerable, that's what's really important in life," Jacob said. SAN MARCOS, Calif. (KGTV) -- During this pandemic, maybe a taste of rich and creamy chocolate is the answer to true happiness. Dayleen Coleman, the owner of D'liteful Chocolat in San Marcos, is fortunate enough to spend her days creating with chocolate. Coleman calls working with chocolate an art, but she will be the first to tell you, she's not a chocolate maker, she's a chocolatier."We all have are own little specialties when working with chocolate. It's a way to express yourself. You're taking a product and then you are creating with it," Coleman said.But while she continues to produce delectable chocolates, like truffles and other goodies, the current pandemic has forced her to take a new approach to sell her sweets."I love to teach, and that's been my passion. We had to stop our classes for the longest time. I also work with wineries as well, and it all stopped," Coleman said.While D'liteful Chocolat has continued their online sales, they found one way to create more income by starting a membership club. The thinking is, a little chocolate may create happiness for their customers."People wanted to something to still celebrate," says Coleman. "So that's how we came up with our boxes. We started curating these boxes and decided to start a club. Once a month we can do something creative and be completely different."The best part of these membership boxes is that the customers can choose the chocolates of their choice. 1452

SAN MARCOS (KGTV) - A report of a man shooting his wife at their North San Diego County home Tuesday may have been a swatting call, San Diego County Sheriff’s Deputies said.Deputies got a call indicating a man had opened fire on his wife at a home in the 1400 block of Clearview Way near San Elijo Park in San Marcos about 2:30 p.m.Investigators surrounded the home, breaking down the door with guns drawn. They found the man unarmed on the balcony. No victim was in the home. Several schools were temporarily placed on lockdown. The man’s wife later arrived at the scene, unaware of the situation. The woman, who did not want to be identified,  told 10News she and her husband are gamers with millions of followers. "People always have an opinion and they may not like what you do or say and sometimes it’s taken to an extreme when they call the cops on you," said the man's wife. The wife said her husband had no idea deputies had entered the home until he heard shouting. He usually wears a headset while he's playing. "He heard 'this is the police'. I think he heard it, 'this is the police' and he took his headset off and he came downstairs and he saw guns being pointed at him and he wanted to show his hands because he was afraid to get shot," she said. The call made to deputies was traced back to a doctor’s office in Michigan, according to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo says the U.S. is considering a ban on Chinese social media apps, including the wildly popular short video platform TikTok.In an interview Monday with Fox News' Laura Ingraham, Pompeo said people should only download the app if they want their private information in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party.TikTok is owned by ByteDance, a company based in Beijing. Though the app has said that it operates independently from the Chinese government, it also claims its data centers are located outside China and not subject to Chinese law.Pompeo's remarks came hours ahead of an announcement by TikTok that said it would no longer operate the app in Hong Kong.The company said Tuesday in a statement that it had decided to halt operations "in light of recent events."TikTok's departure from Hong Kong comes as various social media platforms and messaging apps — including Facebook, WhatsApp, Telegram, Google and Twitter — balk at the possibility of providing user data to Hong Kong authorities.The social media companies say they are assessing the ramifications of the national security law.India banned TikTok earlier this month amid a border standoff between Chinese and Indian troops. 1226

SAN YSIDRO, Calif. (KGTV) — After a series of delays, a project to revamp a stretch of Otay Mesa Road near San Ysidro High School is nearing completion.The city says it expects to reopen the half-mile portion of the road, from Hawken Drive to Saltaire Place, by the second week of May. The stretch of road has been closed since 2016, cutting off access to San Ysidro High School and the 905 freeway for residents of the Remington Hills neighborhood."You either hit all the stoplights going all the way out over to Picador (Blvd), or you have to go all the way around through San Ysidro, 805 to the 905," said Benjamin Bribiesca, who says the detour adds upwards of 15 to 20 minutes to his daily commute to his job in Eastlake.The city says some of the final work to be done includes grading, repaving, adding anti-graffiti materials, re-vegetation and some sidewalk improvements. The .5 million project also added a protected sidewalk for San Ysidro High School students, who for more than a decade had been walking on a dirt path close to cars passing on the winding road.The project was delayed more than a year due to the addition of a water line, relocation of utilities, poor soil conditions, unseasonably rainy winters, and an April to July moratorium due to cooper's hawk nesting season. 1306
