JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Inside Super Food and Brew, it’s been a brutal few months of business, ever since the coronavirus pandemic began.“We did have to reduce the staff quite a bit,” said Al Penttila, Super Food and Brew’s general manager. “Basically, it was a struggle for them for the beginning of it.”Surviving mainly on take-out and delivery orders, news that the Republican National Convention would be coming to Jacksonville came as a welcome relief.“The arena is about three blocks from here so we're hoping and we're expecting a lot of foot traffic,” Penttila said.The RNC estimates about 50,000 people will make their way to Jacksonville for the convention and potentially bring in more than 0 million to the local economy. Yet, there are some concerns about what else it might bring, one of which revolves around the potential for protests during the convention.“I hope it doesn't get out of hand,” Penttila said. “I know they're taking precautions.”The city’s Republican mayor said there will be plenty of security in place.“Peaceful protests are a right and here in Jacksonville we honor and respect that right,” said Mayor Lenny Curry, R-Jacksonville. “There will be additional resources in our city that will be subsidized by the federal government.”Then, there’s the ever-lurking specter of COVID-19. This week, Florida saw its biggest one-day jump in cases: more than 2,800.“A convention is a super spreader event and the possibilities, if you're a gambling person, the possibilities, the odds will be in your favor that you could possibly be exposed,” said Dr. Doreen Perez, with the University of North Florida’s Brooks College of Health.She said, without precautions, conventions of any kind can potentially spread the coronavirus to many people, who could end up taking it home to their communities.“Especially when they're coming from different all points of the nation,” Dr. Perez said.Her advice for attendees: social distance, wash your hands and wear a mask.“It's been proven that it works,” she said.Back at Super Food and Brew, there is little fear and a lot of hope.“I think the economic benefit of the RNC coming here will outweigh anything,” Penttila said.It is something the city will know one way or another by the last week of August. KANSAS CITY, Mo. — A woman is recovering after being shot in the leg by a man she’d been out with Wednesday night.She was shot on the Plaza, but the Kansas City Police Department said the incident began in another part of town. They said a man and the victim were in his car when he started firing his gun from the car.The woman got out and ran to her car, which was parked on the Plaza.Police said the man drove by and shot her through her car door.She was taken to the hospital. The gunman left the scene and went to his home in Lee’s Summit, where local police arrested him and took him to the KCPD jail.KPCD said it’s unclear why the suspect began shooting in the first place.The woman was shot right outside The Granfalloon. 752

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — One of the men indicted for the death of 10-year-old boy on a water slide in 2016 is also facing a bankruptcy in Texas.Jeff Henry, the co-owner of Schlitterbahn water parks in Kansas City, Kansas and Corpus Christi, Texas is scheduled to appear in a Kansas City, Kansas, courtroom next week.The Corpus Christi location is part of an ongoing bankruptcy.According to court records, Jeff Henry and his brother Gary Henry were behind a company called Upper Padre Partners (UPP).Those same records show UPP had more than million in unexplained cost overruns for the Corpus Christi water park.That figure is more than double what it was expected to cost to build the complex, which also includes a nine-hole golf course.Companies the Henrys borrowed money from accuse them of mismanagement and misappropriation of funds.Right now, a court-appointed trustee runs Upper Padre Partners, and submits monthly financial reports to the court.The newest report, for February, was submitted last week.Court records show a company called Axys loaned UPP million in February 2015.By November 2016, three months after 10-year-old Caleb Schwab was killed while riding a slide in the Kansas City park, that million was in default.Axys foreclosed on a piece of property next to the Corpus Christi water park and is attempting to sell it to get some of its money back.An attorney for Axys said UPP still owes the company millions of dollars.Court records show UPP also owes International Bank of Commerce more than million.That bank has put claims known as liens on both the water park and the golf course. 1662

JAMUL, Calif. (KGTV) -- A man was arrested Tuesday morning after reportedly stabbing a San Diego County Sheriff’s Department K-9 and spraying deputies with bear spray. Deputies were called to the 15000 block of Skyline Truck Trail in Jamul around 10 a.m. Tuesday after receiving reports of a man walking around a vehicle talking to himself. When deputies arrived, they made contact with the man, identified as Richard Lechuga, 29, of San Diego, sitting in a vehicle. When deputies approached Lechuga, he reportedly sprayed three of them with bear spray through an open window. Deputies say Lechuga then brandished what appeared to be a knife and a handgun and stabbed a K-9 in the head and face. Deputies were able to take Lechuga into custody after using less-lethal shotgun rounds, pepper balls and a Taser. The K-9 was taken to a local veterinarian for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The deputies were also treated on scene and Lechuga was taken to the hospital for treatment. Lechuga was arrested for felony assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer, assaulting a police animal and resisting arrest.
