Gavin Newsom on Monday announced updated guidance for hair and nail salons and barbershops in California that would allow those businesses to shift their operations outdoors amid the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.Last week, Newsom announced the shutdown of indoor operations, including beauty services, as COVID-19 cases across the state increased.In the days following Newsom’s order, restaurants were able to move dining outdoors, but barbershops and hair/nail salons were not able to do work outside.During a Monday press briefing, Newsom said the state updated its regulations for barbershops and hair salons for when they are moved outdoors.Some of the guidelines include:-- Face coverings required for employees and customers during service; workers should also have access to face shields, gloves and other personal protective equipment-- Outdoor operations must be under a tent, canopy or other sun shelter as long as no more than one side is closed, allowing sufficient outdoor air movement-- Temperature screenings for employees; screenings recommended for customers upon arrival-- Businesses should confirm customer appointments in advance and ask if a customer or someone in their household exhibits COVID-19 symptoms-- Stagger appointments to reduce customer congestion at business; this will also give business time to clean/sanitize-- Recommended expansion of operating hours to space out customer appointments-- Suspend walk-in visits-- Frequently disinfect commonly used surfaces and workstations-- Clean and disinfect all electrical and non-electrical tools-- Ensure any outdoor shade or outdoor working area has the same ventilation and airflow as the outdoors-- Have designated outdoor area for customers to waitClick here to view the state’s complete guidance sheet for hair salons and barbershops.For nail salons, some of the guidelines for operating outdoors include:-- Clients will be asked to apply hand sanitizer before nail services-- Employees should wear face shield with face covering when performing service on client’s face or neck areas (when he/she is not wearing face covering)-- Clients won’t be allowed to have a manicure and pedicure on the same visit-- Workers must have disposable gloves when performing services-- Businesses will have to evaluate if plastic partitions can be used between employees and clients; implement social distancing of workstationsClick here to view the state’s complete guidance sheet for nail salons and other personal care services, including massage therapy. 2549

(KGTV) — California has released guidance on allowing outdoor services, like religious services and protests, amid the coronavirus pandemic.Initially, the state released guidance for indoor religious services to be held at 25% capacity or 100 people, whichever is less. San Diego Supervisor Nathan Fletcher said Monday that the guidance has been expanded to not only outdoor religious services, but cultural services, constitutionally-protected activities, and weddings provided physical distancing is practiced."That remains in place for indoor services, but they have expanded that outdoor services can occur provided that they can maintain physical distance between individuals. So they're allowing whatever the natural surroundings allow for provided that you can physically distance between individuals. Proposition 21 would have allowed counties to apply rent control to housing more than 15 years old, with the exception of some single-family homes.Single-family homes owned by people with no more than two properties would have been exempt under proposition 21.Those in support say it’s the change needed to combat homelessness and keep people in their homes. (KGTV) - A nun died in court Friday during a proceeding related to the legal battle against the Los Angeles Archdiocese and singer Katy Perry.Sister Catherine Rosse Holzman, 89, died in court during the proceeding related to the sale of a Los Feliz property, according to ABC-affiliate KABC.Holzman was part of an order of nuns known as The Sisters of the Most Holy and Immaculate Heart of the Blessed Virgin Mary. The order owned a hilltop property that used to be a convent but sold it in 2015 to entrepreneur Dana Hollister.RELATED: Judge rules in Katy Perry's favor in land dispute case with conventThe Archdiocese intervened, however, saying the offer was void because the order did not get the sale approved by the Archdiocese or Pope Francis. This led to the court battle over whether Hollister, who offered million for the property, was a suitable buyer as opposed to Perry, who offered .5 million.Perry's offer has the approval of Los Angeles' archbishop but has yet to gain approval by the Vatican.A judge ruled in favor of Perry in 2016, saying the archdiocese has to first authorize any sale, and the nuns didn't have his permission before entering into the agreement with Hollister. 1260
