BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao on Friday pledged to work with Bosnia and Herzegovina to enhance the bilateral relationship between the two nations."We should work together to achieve this goal based on mutual respect, equality and mutual benefit," Wen said during his talks with Nikola Spiric, chairman of the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina.Hailing the traditional friendship between the two nations, Wen said China respects the independence, sovereignty and territorial integrity of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and respects its peoples's choice of their development path.Wen hoped the western Balkan region would achieve lasting peace and stability.Wen said trade and economic cooperation between the two countries has good prospects. The Chinese government encourages reputable companies to invest in Bosnia and Herzegovina and to participate in its economic construction.He welcomed Bosnian enterprises to further develop the Chinese market and expand exports to China.Both sides should make joint efforts to promote cultural, educational and tourism exchanges to enhance mutual understanding between the two peoples and friendship, he said.Spiric thanked China for its valuable support and help.Bosnia and Herzegovina attached importance to China's development, and wished to strengthen its friendly and cooperative relations with the country, he said.Bosnia and Herzegovina is willing to maintain high-level exchanges with China and will continue to firmly support China in major issues concerning China's core interests.Spiric hoped to work with China to strengthen cooperation in economy and trade, infrastructure construction, education, cultural exchanges, and welcomed Chinese enterprises to invest in Bosnia and Herzegovina.Bosnia and Herzegovina welcomes Chinese people to visit the country, he added.After their talks, Wen and Spiric witnessed the signing of cooperation documents between the two countries.China's top political advisor Jia Qinglin met with Spiric later on Friday, applauding the country's adherence to the one-China policy.Jia, chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), said the CPPCC would increase exchanges and cooperation with the country's parliament, to contribute to the development of bilateral ties.Chinese vice premier Zhang Dejiang also met with Spiric Friday evening, hoping the two sides would expand cooperation in construction of highways and power plants.Spiric is the first prime minister of Bosnia and Herzegovina to visit China since the two countries forged diplomatic ties 15 years ago.Spiric will also visit Shanghai to attend the National Pavilion Day of Bosnia and Herzegovina, and tour Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi province.

He said the organizers will be upfront about the problems but not exaggerate them.

GUANGZHOU, May 31 (Xinhua) -- A total of 311 children have been rescued in a crackdown on child smuggling in south China's Guangdong Province over the past year, police authorities said Monday.Police arrested 645 people in 276 child smuggling cases from April last year to May 25 this year, said Zhai Kaixia, deputy director of the criminal investigation department under the provincial public security department.The nationwide DNA database designed to tracing missing children and cash rewards for information were instrumental in the crackdown, Zhai said.Zhai said the DNA database had helped reunite a boy in Shantou City with his parents in Kunming, capital of southwestern Yunnan Province, 11 years after he was sold to a man surnamed Chen for 13,800 yuan (2,020 U.S. dollars).The reward for tip-offs leading to the arrest of a suspect is 5,000 yuan and 10,000 yuan for information leading to the rescue of a child. The reward for a tip-off was capped at 50,000 yuan, he said.

BEIJING, May 25 (Xinhua) -- China and Finland here on Tuesday marked their 60th anniversary of diplomatic ties at an evening reception.Addressing the reception, Wang Gang, vice-chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, said the two countries had become "reliable partners of cooperation."Finnish President Tarja Halonen echoed Wang, saying information and environmental concerns had become important areas of cooperation.The president said she was leading a delegation of business people to China to build links between the two countries. She said she looked forward to a clean tech workshop slated for Wednesday.Halonen arrived at Beijing Tuesday morning, kicking off her six-day visit to China. BEIJING, April 7 (Xinhua) -- The Chinese government encourages Chinese businesses to set up economic and trade cooperation zones in member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to deepen cooperation, a senior commerce official said Wednesday.Vice Minister of Commerce Gao Hucheng, speaking at a preparatory meeting for the seventh China-ASEAN Expo, said China and ASEAN members have strengthened economic and trade cooperation since the China-ASEAN Free Trade Area (CAFTA) came into effect on Jan. 1 this year.Customs data showed that bilateral trade totalled 39.12 billion U.S. dollars in the first two months of 2009, up 66 percent from a year ago.Chinese exports to ASEAN states rose 52.9 percent to 18.69 billion U.S. dollars while imports from ASEAN jumped 80.2 percent to 20.43 billion U.S. dollars.Gao called upon "eligible" Chinese enterprises to "go overseas" to ASEAN countries to set up economic and trade zones with infrastructure and industrial chains.He also said the two sides should implement the agreement on trade and expand trade, calling for an increase in the trade of high value-added products, including mechanical and electrical products and other hi-tech products.The two sides' enterprises should further expand cooperation and deepening ties in the agricultural, manufacturing, infrastructure, resources, and processing sectors, he said.The CAFTA, covering a population of about 1.9 billion, is the world's third largest trade agreement in terms of trade volume, after the European Union and the North American Free Trade Area.The ASEAN groups Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.Under the CAFTA, the average tariff on goods from ASEAN countries entering China has been cut to 0.1 percent from 9.8 percent, while the six original ASEAN members - Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand - slashed the average tariff on Chinese goods entering ASEAN states from 12.8 percent to 0.6 percent.The seventh China-ASEAN Expo will be held in Nanning, capital of Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, from Oct. 20 to 24 this year.
