Authorities say Maricopa County Assessor Paul D. Petersen has been indicted in an adoption fraud scheme.The Department of Public Safety raided Petersen's home and businesses on Tuesday evening.During that raid, eight pregnant Marshallese women were located.According to the Attorney General's Office, the raids are related to a multi-state investigation, arrest, and criminal indictment involving Petersen and another person -- Lynwood Jennet. Petersen also faces charges for related offenses in Arkansas and Utah.According to the indictment, Petersen and Jennet face 32 counts, including conspiracy, fraudulent schemes and practices, theft, and forgery.Officials say in addition to being County Assessor for Maricopa County, Petersen is also an adoption lawyer.In a press conference held Wednesday, Attorney General Mark Brnovich said none of the women who gave birth did anything illegal, and none of the families that adopted children are accused of any crimes. At a Sunday night vigil honoring the victims of the West Texas mass shooting, Odessa Mayor David Turner praised authorities for ramming into the hijacked mail truck the shooter was driving and putting an end to his killing spree.Seven people were killed and 22 others were wounded when 36-year-old Seth Ator began randomly spraying the roads with bullets after getting pulled over for failing to use his signal, police said."The reason that person was stopped was because of a Midland police officer and an Odessa police officer. They rammed his car, stopped him and when he got out, they shot him," he said.Moving forward will be difficult, Turner said "but with strength and a 'whatever-it-takes' spirit we will show this community, our state and our nation, what it means to be West Texans."The shooter had been fired from his trucking job hours before he began his killing rampage. "Saturday morning, our suspect went to work at Journey Oil Field service. He was there for a short time and was terminated by his employer," said Police Chief Michael Gerke in an update Monday. "Right after that firing, he called 911, Odessa Police Department's 911, and so did his employer. And basically they were complaining on each other because they had a disagreement over the firing."Authorities say they believe he acted alone but have not yet determined a motive.His victims ranged from 15 to 57 years old, Odessa Police Chief Michael Gerke said, and included Mary Granados, a 29-year-old mail carrier who was on the phone with her twin sister as she neared the end of her shift.A 17-month-old girl and three law enforcement officers were among the injured.He was pulled over for not using his signalThe shooter was pulled over by Texas troopers in Midland Saturday afternoon for failing to use his signal, police said. That's where police confronted him in a parking lot and killed him.The gunman was slammed by a police vehicle and set spinning into a group of cars, where he was soon encircled by authorities, according to bystander video and Midland County District Attorney Laura Nodolf."Law enforcement at that point had collectively taken efforts to surround him, and he was not going to go anywhere, and he was not going to hurt anybody else," Nodolf said. "That is the definition of heroism, when you have people you know are walking into fire and could be hit, and they were."Investigators are now combing through 15 different crime scenes and multiple cars, FBI Special Agent in Charge Christopher Combs said.Combs said his agency responds to Texas frequently, adding the FBI is "here now almost every other week supporting our local and state partners on active shooters."Combs said at this point the agency does not believe there's "any connection to any domestic or international terrorism."The victimsGranados' sister, Rosie, said she heard her sister's scream while they were on the phone together."It was very painful," she said. An Iranian beauty queen who has spent almost two weeks inside Manila's international airport says she will be killed if she is sent back home and is seeking asylum in the Philippines.Bahareh Zare Bahari, a contestant in the recent Miss Intercontinental pageant in Manila, claims Tehran is attempting to silence her because of her public stand against the government.In a press release last week, the Philippines Immigration Department said the international police agency Interpol issued a worldwide request to arrest Bahari, known as a red notice. The statement did not specify which country requested the red notice, but Bahari told CNN that an immigration official told her Iran requested one in 2018."I have been living here since 2014 and I've not gone back to Iran. I explained to them many times, how can I have a criminal case in Iran when I've been living here?" she told CNN by phone.Bahari said she has been confined to a passenger room in Terminal 3 of Manila's Ninoy Aquino International Airport since she arrived from Dubai 12 days ago. "I'm really mentally sick," she said, adding that the uncertainty over her case is wearing her down.Bahari believes she is being targeted for supporting the exiled Reza Pahlavi, the son of the Shah of Iran overthrown in the country's 1979 revolution.The beauty queen blamed the situation on Iranian authorities, saying it came up because she used an image of Pahlavi and the flag of the former Iranian monarchy as props during a recent competition. Bahari said she made the statement "to try and be the voice of my people."She also believes she may be targeted because of her social activism in Iran. It is working with a number of existing streaming services, such as HBO, Starz and Showtime, to flesh out what's available there. The company also announced its own mostly-digital credit card and a subscription magazine option for its news app.Apple TV+Apple had former Sony executives Jamie Erlicht and Zack Van Amburg, whom Apple hired away two years ago, on stage to announce the company's original content investment. The deposits are made daily, and the reward goes up to 3% for purchases of Apple products and down to 1% for purchases made with the physical card.Every purchase needs a fingerprint or face-identification confirmation. Attorney General Bill Barr said Friday the Justice Department will have special counsel Robert Mueller's report ready to release by "mid-April, if not sooner."In a letter to the chairmen of the House and Senate judiciary committees, Barr said his department is "well along" making redactions, with the assistance of the special counsel. Barr said the report is "nearly 400 pages long," not including appendices and tables and "sets forth the Special Counsel's findings, his analysis, and the reasons for his conclusions."Barr offered to testify after the report is released, suggesting May 1 for the Senate committee and May 2 for the House committee.Barr wrote that he and Mueller were working to redact four types of information from the report: grand jury material, sensitive intelligence material, information that involves ongoing investigations, and "information that would unduly infringe on the personal privacy and reputational interests of peripheral third parties."But the redactions Barr is working on are unlikely to satisfy Democrats.
