JULIAN, Calif. (KGTV) — Two San Diego breweries are coming together to help veterans and first responders suffering from post-traumatic stress disorder.Julian's Nickel Beer Co. collaborated with San Diego's Bitter Brothers Brewing Co. to create Warrior Contribution Beer, a 5%, golden ale described as, "a beer that everyone could enjoy and that would be perfect for our warm San Diego days," Nickel Beer Co. owner, Tom Nickel, says.All of the beer's proceeds will be donated to Julian's Inner North Star PTSD Retreat Center to help provide no-cost retreats to veterans and first responders suffering from PTSD.RELATED: Museum of Beer planned to open in San Diego's East Village next yearNickel says the beer started as a fundraiser idea, before it snowballed into a year-round offering."Then the thought grew into possibly brewing a special beer to release around San Diego for June, which is PTSD Awareness Month. Almost immediately the idea became to brew a year-round beer that would help raise awareness of the PTSD Retreat Center's mission as well as raise money to help put veterans and first responders through the program at no cost," Nickel said.Warrior Contribution Beer will be distributed by Karl Strauss Brewing Company across Southern California starting in May, including at local America Legion and VFW posts. KNOXVILLE, Tenn. — Authorities in East Tennessee have asked the public to be on the lookout after a tiger was spotted near an industrial park.The Knox County Sheriff’s Office said a deputy spotted the tiger Wednesday night in the Forks of the River Industrial Park.The sheriff’s office says several agencies are looking for the tiger, including the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency, Knoxville police’s Animal Control Unit and representatives with Tiger Haven, which is located in Kingsport.Investigators say there have been no other sightings. Airlines will see 3.1 million people, and the 1.8 million remaining will take trains, buses and cruise ships.Despite higher gas prices, travelers are still hitting the road. (KGTV) - Community leaders in Julian plan to turn a vacant lot into a Town Square, creating a new focal point for the city."I hope it becomes the center of our town," says Kim Simas, the Treasurer of the Julian Community Heritage Foundation.They're working to raise money for the project, which they think will cost around million. So far, donations have brought in close to 0,000."We would love it to be the heart of the town where people come together to congregate," says JCHF member Rami Abdel.Plans show a small, 2-acre park with a stage, amphitheater-style seating, a water tower, benches, and trees.The square would be at the intersection of Main and Washington Street. Right now, the lot is vacant, covered with weeds and surrounded by a dilapidated fence."It's a bit of an eyesore," says Simas.In the past, the lot had been the home of the community market. It was also a Chevron gas station.That gas station was found to be leaking gasoline into the community water supply in the 1980s and was subsequently shut down.Just a few years ago, the County cleared the site for development. A family in San Clemente owns the lot, and members of the Foundation say they're ready to sell it and support the idea of building a Town Square on the parcel."It's a space I think we can do more with," says Abdel. "It's a space that can benefit the community in so many ways."The Foundation hopes a new town square will serve as a meeting place for community events. They also hope it will encourage tourists to spend more time in Julian."They're going to come up here for the apple picking. They're going to come up here for the pies and the snow. This gives them another area to relax and enjoy the space rather than getting in their car and leaving," says Simas.The project already has the support of the County Board of Supervisors. Organizers hope the board will award the project money from the Park Land Dedication Ordinance. The Julian Planning Group and the Julian Architectural Review Board have also approved the project.Now, the Foundation hopes community members and tourists will chip in to cover the rest of the cost.They've set up a GoFundMe page for donation.
