CLEVELAND — A Cleveland school security guard who was charged with rape, accused of soliciting and sexually assaulting multiple students, was reported for inappropriate behavior to Cleveland Metropolitan School District months before he was arrested. Derrick Dugger, 29, a security guard at East Technical High School in Cleveland is due back in court Tuesday morning for the charges. According to court records, investigators said he forced a 15-year-old girl to perform oral sex and sent inappropriate messages to students. A detective wrote in the report that Dugger was “predatory” and “a danger to these young ladies.”Dugger was formally charged with rape last week after an investigation began earlier in November, but one Cleveland family told Scripps affiliate WEWS-TV that they reported him months before.According to Joyce Swann, her 15-year-old daughter who has special needs made a complaint about Dugger soon after the school year began at East Technical High School.A CMSD report of that complaint obtained by WEWS is dated September 7 — more than 2 months before Dugger was charged. In the report, Swann’s daughter told the dean that at first, the guard asked her if she had a boyfriend and asked to check her phone. The next day, he greeted her by saying, “Good morning baby.”After that, the student reported, the guard told her he “liked the way she twerked that a**” on Instagram. The student said she felt uncomfortable and reported it to the dean, who called her mother and told her they would take a report and investigate. But Swann said she never heard an update until the day Dugger was charged.“Who would say that to a little kid? You’re supposed to be making sure these kids are safe and you’re preying on them,” Swann said. She said she is terrified of what could have happened had her daughter not reported it — and angry that the school didn’t do more initially.“My daughter is a special needs child. He never would have thought in a million years that she would go to authorities and make that report,” Swann said. “I don’t know if they just wouldn’t believe her because she’s an autistic girl or whatever, and he’s an authority figure.”Swann said she wishes she would have pursued the school more with updates on the investigation and encourages other parents to listen to their kids and take action.CMSD sent WEWS the following statement: 2399

CORONADO, Calif. (KGTV) — An Air Force pilot who was killed in Vietnam was honored on Tuesday with an official U.S Air Force Memorial Flyover in Coronado. His widow also honored for her years of work, fighting for prisoners of war and those missing in action to be acknowledged. Colonel Arthur "Art" S. Mearns' plane was shot down in 1966, but for 11 years his wife and daughters didn't know if he had been taken as a POW or if he had been killed.LONGFORM: Teachers turn Marine Recruits, providing perspective for studentsDuring those 11 years of not knowing, his wife wrote letters and visited congressmen, reminding them of all the men who were still unaccounted for. Today, Colonel Mearns' wife and daughters were on hand for the ceremony. They were presented with a painting of the little girls writing a prayer to God, asking them to bring back their father. The painting was commissioned by the Pentagon and hung in a Louisiana congressman's office for years. RELATED: Foundation donates 0,000 to Honor Flight San DiegoMearns' wife and daughters said the ceremony was special but also brought back a lot of sad memories of the man they love so much.  1190

CLEVELAND — On Friday, WEWS talked to Len Honacki, a Cleveland man who was waiting on his heart medication after a United States Postal Service delay.“I was a little worried how long I can go without before I call the doctor and say ‘Hey what’s going on and what do I need to do?'” he said.Tracking records show that his medicine had been to Cincinnati, Washington D.C., and Maryland.“The post office had a series of mishaps," he said. When Alicia Rauckhorst, the Northern Ohio marketing manager for USPS, learned of Honacki’s issue, she decided to take matters into her own hands.“Somewhere in there, inadvertently, it got sent to Maryland,” she said. “As soon as it got back, no matter where it was, I was going to let him know.”She called Honacki herself.“She called me just to apologize and she said ‘I will do whatever it takes to find your meds and I would get it to you,’” he said. “When someone says ‘I'll drive to Cincinnati 4 hours and pick it up and bring it 4 hours back.’ To me, I mean, come on, that’s above and beyond.”Luckily, Rauckhorst made sure his meds arrived in Cleveland Saturday night and Sunday morning she made a special delivery.“I went up there and picked up the package called it when I had it in hand and said ‘Hey, I’m on my way to your house to bring you this medicine.’”Honacki was shocked.“She comes to the front door and delivers the mail right to me. It was phenomenal,” he said. And while he was floored by the kindness, he still worries about other people who may not have their medication in time.“There are good people out there that do wonderful things,” he said.”Maybe they could come up with some sort of system where they had a priority-med service so that if they scan it, it would automatically say this is a medicine.”Rauckhorst said they know every second is important when delivering packages to people.“We don’t necessarily prioritize, in that regard, but we know that this time of year, especially being in a pandemic, everything is critical and we are doing everything we can to get every single package, letter to the customer,” she said.RELATED: Man's heart medication among deliveries impacted by USPS shipping delays, issuesThis story originally reported by Jessi Schultz on News5Cleveland.com. 2257

In San Diego, numerous students from multiple schools took part in the protest.Coronado High student Shasha Hofisi told 10News the school had officers at entrances as intimidation against students who may want to walk out.RELATED: San Diego County students taking part in April 20 National School Walkout"We actually saw students start to get out of their classroom and go back in because of the police," Hofisi said. "Having police officers on campus standing in front of the gates was actually quite intimidating."Earlier this week, Coronado Unified School District Superintendent Karl Mueller sent out an email to parents addressing the planned walkout: 976
