SAN FRANCISCO, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Yahoo Inc. on Monday announced that it has acquired IntoNow, a startup company whose technology can let users almost instantly recognize TV content and share favorite programs with their friends.IntoNow has built a technology platform that can automatically identify live television content and any previously aired U.S.- based television programming in the past five years. It also offers an application for iPhone and other devices running Apple's iOS operating system, which can help users connect and engage with their friends around the shows they love. With the application, users can find out what their friends are watching and engage in discussion through their favorite social networks, or discover what shows they have in common with others and which of them are on air right now."Relying on social channels as a means for discovering content - - whether it's on a PC, mobile device, or TV -- is rapidly on the rise," Bill Shaughnessy, Yahoo's senior vice president of product management and product marketing, said in a statement."IntoNow's technology combines the ability to check-in to what a consumer is watching, engage in conversations, and find related content," he added. In a post on its company blog, Yahoo noted that the addition of IntoNow will enhance its video programming, and bolster its social engagement across the Yahoo network and on all screens.IntoNow, headquartered in Palo Alto in the U.S. state of California, was only launched in January 2011 and now has seven employees.Yahoo didn't disclose terms of the purchase. Technology blog TechCrunch reported that Yahoo paid between 20 million to 30 million U.S. dollars, citing sources with knowledge of the deal.

BEIJING, Jan. 26 (Xinhua) -- China's civil affairs ministers visited survivors of last year's 7.1-magnitude Yushu earthquake and Zhouqu mudslide prior to China's lunar new year.Dou Yupei, vice minister of Civil Affairs, led a team to Yushu in northwest China's Qinghai Province to visit quake survivors and local cadres beginning on Sunday.Dou told Xinhua that quake survivors in Yushu now had access to food, clothing, safe drinking water, shelters and medical services, and the reconstruction of quake-damaged houses was well underway.Further, the ministry has distributed 45,000 cotton-padded tents to Yushu to house survivors during the extremely cold winter on the Qinghai-Tibet plateau. So far, 160,000 tents have been set up to assure that all survivors have a roof overhead, according to the ministry's statement issued Wednesday.Yushu was jolted by a 7.1-magnitude earthquake on April 14, leaving 2,200 people dead and 220,000 local residents affected.Another vice minister, Sun Shaocheng, visited survivors from a massive mudslide that left 1,700 people dead or missing in Zhouqu, Gansu province. To provide warm shelters to survivors, the Zhouqu county government invested three million yuan (455,000 U.S. Dollars) in renovating vacant school buildings or installing facilities in newly-built apartments. All survivors who previously had taken shelter in make-shift tents were relocated to these buildings before Oct. 13, according to the ministry's statement.

The other 181 cases were confirmed in 17 of 24 Venezuelan states. The first case for this year was reported in Merida earlier this month.Sader said that the Venezuelan government was trying to prevent the spread of the disease. BEIJING, March 15 (Xinhuanet) -- Chris Poole, the 22-year-old founder of 4Chan.org, criticized Facebook's approach and spoke up for online anonymity at South by Southwest Interactive in Austin, Texas, according to media reports Tuesday.Poole called out early in his keynote speech at the huge Austin tech event, referencing this Zuckerberg quote from David Kirkpatrick’s book "The Facebook Effect": "Having two identities for yourself is an example of a lack of integrity.""Anonymity is authenticity; it allows you to share in a completely unfiltered way," Poole countered. "It allows you to play in ways, you might not if people knew who you are.”Losing the ability to be anonymous on the Internet is, "a kind of loss of the innocence of youth," Poole said, crediting 4chan’s culture-infiltrating creativity to anonymity. "You can’t make mistakes,“ and then leave them behind, like the olds did pre-Facebook. If your mistakes ever made it to the Internet, they’re with you wherever you go.Poole — known by the 4chan handle "moot" — was to promote his new meme-generating venture, Canvas, still in beta testing.Launched for anime enthusiasts in 2003, 4chan is one of the most popular image-sharing bulletin boards on the Internet, with most of that traffic hitting 4chan’s notorious "random" image board, the /b/ board.
