By day, she’s an assistant teacher at a preschool in Pacific Beach.She’d like to become a lead teacher one day, but her education has left her with more than ,000 in student debt.Her financial goal is to pay that debt off as fast as possible. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Smoke from a fire burning in Mexico is visible throughout San Diego Thursday. The blaze is burning roughly five miles into Mexico amid hot, windy conditions. According to Cal Fire, the fire poses no threat to the U.S. at this time. The agency said, however, it is monitoring the situation and will send a response if the fire threatens San Diego County. A red flag warning was issued for much of San Diego County through Friday. “Winds will get stronger during the day today peaking overnight into Friday early afternoon. Northeast to easterly sustained winds will reach 20 to 35mph with gusts of 40 to 65mph and isolated gusts up to 75mph while humidity levels will plummet into the single digits,” said 10News meteorologist Megan Parry. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Santa Ana winds and low humidity will bring fire danger to San Diego County this week.Relative humidity is down to 10% to 15% in the county, according to the National Weather Service San Diego, causing localized fire weather conditions through Tuesday ahead of moderate to strong Santa Ana winds peaking on Thursday.The high wind weather is expected to last Wednesday night into Friday, the NWS said. Winds will gradually weaken next weekend, but dry air will remain in the county."It is already starting out dry preceding this next event which is not good," the NWS wrote. "Relative humidity will plummet further and by Thursday, single-digit and teen relative humidity could drive all the way to the coast."The county can expect to see temperatures steadily rise 5 to 10 degrees above normal west of the mountains and about 3 to 6 degrees above normal elsewhere into Tuesday, NWS says.Despite this, cooler temperatures will work their way into the county overnight."Nights will remain cool, especially for the wind-sheltered areas. Local breezy conditions will continue below the passes and on the coastal slopes of the mountains each night and morning," NWS said. 1193

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- Starting Wednesday, cruise ships will return to the San Diego Embarcadero — but they will not be picking up any customers for months to come. Experts say the longer the vessels stay, the harder it is for the cruise industry to bounce back.The Holland America Koningsdam returned to the Port of San Diego Wednesday morning. It is one of five cruise ships scheduled to dock at the Embarcadero for fuel and supplies. But not to pick up guests.The vessels include:Holland America Koningsdam – December 23Princess Cruises Emerald Princess – December 24 (leaves for Los Angeles after San Diego visit)Holland America Westerdam – December 28Holland America Zuiderdam – January 8Holland America Noordam – January 11"Their revenues compared to say the same time last year are literally down 99%," financial advisor Dennis Brewster said.According to the Port of San Diego, there have been 119 canceled cruises since March and a loss of 0 million in regional economic activity. Unlike airlines and restaurants, which are two other industries hard hit by the pandemic, Brewster says cruises have no Plan B."Their revenues literally went to zero," Brewster said. "I mean, the others were really bad too, but you can't do a cruise ship on a takeout or drive-through."The Port says each cruise line must follow the CDC's "Framework for Conditional Sailing Order" before they can set sail. The first phase is to test and safeguard the crew. The second is a simulated voyage where the ships must prove their ability to mitigate COVID-19 risk. After that, they can slowly reintroduce passengers on their voyages.In the meantime, the ships and crews will stay put. But will the companies be able to stay afloat?"Even if the CDC and other organizations say, 'January one, you can resume your operations,' how many people would get on today?" Brewster asked.The hope is that travel will be on everyone's radar once it shifts away from the coronavirus."I think all of us have spent enough time at home the last nine months to last the next nine years," Brewster said. "So that's a good thing for the industry. There is going to be quite a bit of pent-up demand."According to the Port of San Diego, Holland America has some cruises scheduled to depart in April and May.
