Sandbox Pizza in Pacific Beach is an example of a restaurant stuck in limbo while helping prevent the spread of COVID-19. This past weekend, they held an event offering , 14-inch pizzas to all customers. "It's trying times for everyone so we figured it was something fun and the least we could do to try and help everyone out, from families that are out of work, to industry employees, to our first responders," Yankle added. Many of their top spots offer a view from up high of rolling hillsides in Ramona, wildlife in its natural habitat near Julian, and unique vegetation surrounding Pala.All one needs is their phone and a joy for the outdoors (in addition to hiking essentials).Here's where you can find park rangers' picks and why each trek is a favorite:Wilderness Gardens (14209 Hwy 76, Pala, Calif.): "Take the Upper Meadow Trail 3.2 miles to a large grassy expanse with seasonal wildflowers. Also, look for the foundation of an old grist mill on the County Historic Resource Board’s list of historic places. The foundation is about 0.8 miles into the hike."Agua Caliente (39555 Great Southern Overland Stage Route of 1849, Julian, Calif.): "Keep your eyes open for bighorn sheep as you walk along the Marsh Trail, and snap a selfie about a half a mile in at a palm grove. The trees are sure to please."El Capitan (13775 Blue Sky Ranch Road, Lakeside, Calif.): "You’ll really need to work for this photo. Take the main trail up, up, up. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - San Diegans living in recreational vehicles will soon have an opportunity to find refuge in the city's newest safe parking lot, an expansion of the City's Safe Parking ProgramThe City-funded lot will be in Mission Valley, operated by Jewish Family Service.Right now, there are four safe parking lots, but only one allows RVs."No one told me life was going to be easy, ok? I understand that I get that concept, but can we get a break once in a while? Just a little break, that's how I looked at this. This was my break," said Jeff Tracy.Tracy is referring to the safe parking lot on Imperial Avenue which accommodates RVs; it's operated by Dreams for Change."Because you can't function and take care of your basic needs if you're worried about your basic needs."Tracy's life forever changed seven years ago when a drunk driver crashed into the vehicle he was in with his wife and daughter. Tracy was the only one who survived, and he lost one of his legs. He's been struggling ever since. "It's a very learning process being homeless, and I don't like it, and I know most people don't, it's a hard life."Some RV owners like Tracy worry they'll have to move their RV during the day if they're moved to the new parking lot. He not only has to get his wheelchair in and out of the RV but says the cost of gas would be astronomical. "Expensive, hard, it's stressful, because now I've got to move it and where am I going to move it to? I've got to pull over here to some resident again, and they're going to get upset, I don't want to upset people," said Tracy.Tracy says the Safe Parking Program has given him a place to feel safe while he tries to plan for a better future. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Police are asking the pubic for help identifying a group of suspects they say assaulted a male outside a Pacific Beach restaurant this month.Police said the victim got into an argument with a group of men outside Backyard Bar and Grill on Garnet Ave. on April 1, at about 1:30 a.m. During the argument, one of the suspects punched the victim in the face three times.After the victim walked across the street to get away from the group, the suspects followed him and repeatedly punched and kicked him while he was on the ground, police added.The victim was taken to a nearby hospital with major head and facial injuries. He underwent reconstructive surgery of his face due to the severity of his injuries, police say.The group of men fled before police arrived on scene.Anyone with information about the suspects is asked to call San Diego Police at 858-552-1700 or Crime Stoppers at 888-580-8477. 933

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer and seven other California mayors are calling for the state to loosen restrictions on reopening large theme parks.The letter to Gov. Gavin Newsom requests that the state allow large theme parks to reopen with reduced capacity under the state's third reopening tier (orange/moderate) rather than the fourth (yellow/minimal).The letter stated that, "guidelines put forth by your Administration were released within the framework of prioritizing public health and safety for guests and employees. This is the right focus. However, economic and public health are not mutually exclusive goals.""We are concerned that the state's guidelines would push re-opening of large theme parks up to a year out, which would have significant negative impacts on hundreds of thousands of jobs, thousands of small businesses, and billions in operating revenue for our cities," the letter dated Oct. 30 stated.The letter pointed out San Diego, Los Angeles, and Anaheim as the most impacted cities.The letter is signed by Faulconer, Anaheim Mayor Harry Sidhu, Los Angeles Mayor Kevin Garcetti, San Jose Mayor Sam Liccardo, Fresno Mayor Lee Brand, Bakersfield Mayor Karen Goh, Riverside Mayor Rusty Bailey, and Santa Ana Mayor Miguel Pulido. The mayors' cities are either in the red or purple tier of the state's reopening plan.California's theme park guidance allows smaller theme parks to resume operations in the state's third reopening tier (moderate/orange) with a limited capacity of 25% or 500 visitors, whichever is fewer; only outdoor attractions; and ticket sales limited to visitors in the same county.All theme parks may resume operations in the state's fifth tier (yellow/minimal) with a limited capacity of 25%.
