Have you heard of the "Dirty Dozen" list? Every year, it lists the 12 fruits and veggies that have the most pesticides. Now, one group of researchers says the list may be scaring people unnecessarily.Laura Molina works to make sure her customers at her community market, Growhaus, pick the best fruits and veggies.“We try to bring everything organic and local,” Molina said.It ends up being a mix. So, when customers ask her how to pick between organic and conventional, she often gives them advice she takes herself.“Everything that I can peel, I can buy, like, not organic,” Molina explains. “But like lettuce, mushrooms, apples, I try to buy them organic.”But is there a set rule for choosing? Every year, a nonprofit called the Environmental Working Group puts out the "Dirty Dozen," a list of the 12 fruits and veggies most contaminated by pesticide residue.This year, apples, celery and tomatoes made the list.However, a group of scientists say these foods may not be as dirty as some once thought, and the way the EWG analyzed the data is flawed.“The benefit of fruits and vegetables far outweighs the potential concern of this pesticide residue,” registered dietitian Jessica Crandall said.Crandall says consumers would have to eat a lot of a certain fruit or vegetable to be affected by any pesticides.“You would have to be eating so many cups,” Crandall said. “Like 400-plus cups of strawberries per day in order for that residue to be a potential concern if you're an adult. HORTONVILLE, Wis — Benshot, a northeast Wisconsin company that produces glassware embedded with bullets, gifted handguns to staff as an early Christmas present. The company staffs 16 full-time employees and gifted the handguns as an effort to promote personal safety and team building, according to the The Post Crescent.Owner Ben Wolfram told the paper that this is the first time in their three years of business that they've gifted guns to workers. Here in the U.S., states are handling vaccine distribution in different ways.Most are going with health care workers in direct contact with COVID-19 patients first, but plans could change.“So, we need to set realistic expectations that there will be guidance that's different in different states. The guidance will evolve as we get more and more vaccines. And that doesn't mean anything's wrong or we've changed our minds, it’s just the way it's going to roll out,” said Stacy Hall, Director of Louisiana’s Public Health Immunization Program.Louisiana plans to let its hospitals and EMS distribute the first doses to their staffs. It’s a strategy not just to protect the valuable workers, but to hopefully get the public on board.“I'm really eager for them as the first group to really learn the science about the vaccine and step up and be vaccinated. I think that'll set our whole campaign in Louisiana and nationally on the right track,” said Hall.As for the cold storage of the vaccine, Louisiana doesn't see it as overly challenging.They also plan to use the state immunization information system to track who needs second doses and where the vaccine is being used most.“I want us to keep going back to that. Gap has apologized for a map of China on one of its T-shirts that upset internet users in the country.A user on Chinese social network Weibo posted photos of a T-shirt they said was on sale at a Gap store in Canada, complaining that its design left out Taiwan and islands claimed by Beijing in the South China Sea.The US clothing brand is the latest international company to find itself in hot water over Chinese territorial issues.The Chinese government in Beijing considers self-governed Taiwan to be an integral part of its territory and comes down hard on any suggestions to the contrary. China also claims sovereignty over a large swathe of territory in the South China Sea, including areas claimed by other countries like Vietnam and the Philippines.Gap responded to the criticism on Weibo by announcing it had pulled the T-shirts from the Chinese market and destroyed them."Gap Inc. respects China's sovereignty and territorial integrity. We've learned that a Gap brand T-shirt sold in some overseas markets failed to reflect the correct map of China in the design," the company said in a statement posted late Monday on Weibo."We sincerely apologize for this unintentional error," it added. "We're currently conducting an internal inspection."The company didn't say whether the product would be withdrawn from sale in other markets.A series of other big Western brands have apologized over missteps on Chinese territorial issues.Chinese authorities in January blocked Marriott's websites and apps for a week after the company listed Tibet, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan as separate countries in emails and apps. "As we pursue this exit from the new build coal power market, we will continue to support our customers, helping them to keep their existing plants running in a cost-effective and efficient way with best-in-class technology and service expertise."The company said the move could potentially lead to site closing, layoffs, and appropriate considerations for publicly held subsidiaries.GE says they aren't cutting off coal ties entirely as they service existing plants and build turbines for nuclear power plants. 1032
