SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego County’s public health officer said a Pacific Beach gym ordered to close last week has been linked to a community COVID-19 outbreak.The Gym, located at 2949 Garnett Ave., was ordered to close on July 23 for violating public health orders, according to a document from the county.County Public Health officer Wilma Wooten said the county discovered the outbreak on Tuesday. Wooten couldn’t offer any further details. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher and City Attorney Mara Elliott on Monday announced a new partnership that will help protect local families from gun violence.The local leaders said a program will be implemented to provide specialized gun safety training for 800 county social workers that deal with children and investigate child abuse.The training will be held virtually for these employees in the coming months. They want each of them to be familiar with gun violence restraining orders and San Diego’s Safe Storage of Firearms law -- two tools gun prevention advocates say are essential in keeping people safe.Carol Landale, with San Diegans for Gun Violence Prevention, said, “The more people who are aware of how to use a gun violence restraining order, as far as we’re concerned, the better. And this is not to say we’re coming after your guns. This is not what it’s about … We remove the gun on a temporary basis -- a temporary removal for a crisis and when the crisis is done the gun can be returned.”Officials say they’re doing this now because COVID-19 has limited the interaction between children and mandated reporters like their teachers or school counselors. So, they want to make sure social workers know of danger signs when they’re present.In a news release, Elliott said, “As pandemic-related stressors mount and children attend school at homes where parents are distracted by other responsibilities, protecting families from gun violence has never been more important. Our goal is to prevent unthinkable tragedies and ensure the safety of the social workers who continue to investigate the well-being of San Diego’s children during the pandemic. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- San Diego Police are investigating after a 16-year-old was shot and killed in Lincoln Park Saturday night.Police responded to the 4900 block of Magnus Way around 10:20 p.m. after receiving reports of gunfire.When they arrived, officers found the teen in a driveway with a single gunshot wound. The 16-year-old was taken to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead, police say. Police say the teen has been identified, but his name isn’t being released at this time. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diego health officials reported three unrelated cases of Tuberculosis, one at a South Bay high school and two others at U.S. Navy ships docked in San Diego.One case was reported at San Ysidro High School, according to the county. Health and Human Services Agency and Sweetwater Union High School District officials are warning individuals who were potentially exposed from Jan. 16 to May 31. County staff is providing free testing for students who may have potentially been exposed. The school district will provided staff potentially exposed with free testing as well.The Navy and HHSSA officials are working to alert potentially exposed contractors who worked on two Navy ships between Jan. 10 and July 18:Huntington Ingalls Industries employees who worked on the USS Bonhomme Richard (LHD-6), docked at Naval Base San Diego, from January 10 to June 8.General Dynamics NASSCO employees working on the USS Makin Island (LHD-8), docked at NASSCO from March 23 to July 18.The two ships were not accessible to the public and exposure to Navy personnel was extremely limited, according to the county. Contractors are working with occupational health providers to offer free testing.“Testing is recommended for all those exposed to assure they are not infected, since initial infection usually has no symptoms,” said Wilma Wooten, County public health officer. “For any infected individuals, early diagnosis and prompt treatment can prevent the infectious form of the disease.”Tuberculosis is transmitted from person-to-person through indoor air during prolonged contact with an infected individual. The county says most people who are exposed don't become infected.Symptoms include persistent cough, fever, night sweats, and unexplained weight loss. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — San Diegans now have even more problems they can report by the touch of a button.The city is continuing to add categories to its "Get it Done" smartphone app, which launched in 2016. The app originally allowed San Diegans to report stormwater and street issues, but currently has nine categories, including code enforcement, graffiti, and even passport appointments.The city says it gets 10,000 reports per month on the app.RELATED: San Diego battles illegally painted red curbsIn August, the city added features that allow people to report cars parked longer than 72 hours, illegal dumping, and HAZMAT related issues.
