SAN DIEGO (KGTV) -- A man died Sunday morning after California Highway Patrol says his car flipped over before slamming into a tree in National City. According to CHP, the crash happened around 3 a.m. on I-805 south near Plaza Boulevard. Officers say the vehicle was speeding when the driver lost control and flipped several times before hitting the tree. The crash was the second deadly collision on the 805 south in two days. Saturday morning, a wrong-way driver crashed into another vehicle on I-805 south near the I-8 connector. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A San Diego company says they have the solution to make people recycle more and get back the money they spend on redemption fees. One Earth Recycling wants to put the redemption centers in high-traffic areas like malls and grocery stores, rather than their usual spots in industrial areas of the city."Our goal is not to try to exceed people's expectations of recycling, we're trying to develop a whole new category of recycling," says One Earth CEO Josh Turchin.RELATED: California considers overhaul of bottle and can recycling programEvery year, Californians leave hundreds of millions of dollars on the table because of unredeemed cans and bottles. Turchin says the biggest problem is that it's not easy to find redemption centers, and they're not always the most welcoming of places."This program has been hijacked by opportunistic operators who have just strip-mined the model and operate it as inexpensively as possible," he says.To counter that, Turchin plans to open 100 small-scale redemption centers at malls and grocery stores across California. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) - A Minnesota man suspected of possessing child pornography may be in San Diego, according to the San Diego Police Department.Jamison Michael Nelson, 40, was the focus of a news release issued Monday to alert the public.San Diego Police did not release details about the charges, but information from DL-online.com indicated a man named Jamison Michael Nelson was charged with six felony counts of possessing pornographic works on a computer.The National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received an alert from Google indicating that three images which may have been child pornography had been uploaded to a Gmail account, according to the report.DL-online.com reported that a search of Nelson’s residence turned up a hard drive hidden in a coffee pot.San Diego Police did not indicate why they believe Nelson may be in our area.He is white, six-feet tall, 185 pounds, with brown hair and green eyes. 934

SAN DIEGO (KGTV) – A local marijuana testing lab is releasing vape test results that are alarming. Almost 80% of the cannabis vape cartridges were tested and deemed "unfit for consumption."Tucked away in a quiet San Diego business park, Platinum Vape manufacturing company produces high-potency, pesticide-free cannabis products that go through rigorous testing. Co-founder George Sadler is on a mission to spread awareness about the serious potential health risks of using products from unlicensed vape makers and sellers."It's horrible," he tells 10News, adding, "It's doing so much harm to people, versus walking into a licensed store."Platinum Vape recently teamed up with nearby licensed cannabis dispensary Mankind to buy back cartridges that ranged from home-made concentrates to counterfeits of popular legal brands.In exchange, customers got discounted Platinum Vape cartridges that are tested and regulated.Mankind Chief Operating Officer Vera Levitt tells 10News, "We wanted to encourage them to replace something that could make them sick with something that was safe."The cartridges were sent to Infinite Chemical Analysis Labs, or InfiniteCAL. It's a local cannabis testing lab that then analyzed the cartridges for potency, pesticides, and heavy metals.The lab found that 79% of the cartridges were deemed "unfit for consumption". Additionally, 62% of them failed for pesticides. Almost 40% of the cartridges failed for lead."[Were there] toxic levels of lead?" 10News asks InfiniteCAL co-founder David Marelius. "One of the vape pens had almost a hundred times the legal limit," he explains.The lab also discovered that half of the products had less than 50% THC in them. Some of the cartridges were cut with excessive levels of vitamin E acetate; the additive may be linked to numerous vape-related deaths and illnesses. Marelius adds, "20% of them had a significant amount.""It's sad for me. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — A recent bout with the flu nearly turned deadly for a San Carlos man when it took an unexpected turn.Five weeks ago, the usually healthy 58-year-old Dave Truby came down with the flu."Fever, nausea, inability to sleep ... body soreness," said Dave's brother, Mike.Mike his brother says Dave tried to fight through it. Some five days later, Dave went to an ER, but left because of the wait for beds. That same night at home, his brother found him in bad shape."Literally shaking in a fetal position," said Mike Truby.At the hospital, Mike received some devastating news. His brother's kidneys were failing, and the MRI showed brain damage from a massive stroke. "The brain wasn't getting clean blood. It was shutting down. The whole body was shutting down. They said it didn't look good," said Mike.Loved ones and friends braced for the worst."I said my prayers and breathed deep," he said.Those prayers were answered in gradual fashion. His kidneys started working and Dave started responding."The last two weeks, he moved his head, blinked, and mouthed words. Wheeled my mom into the hospital room a week ago, and he looked up and mouthed, 'Mom.' Gives us a lot of hope," he said. "You never think the flu is going to impact your life in a possibly terminal way."Much of his prognosis remains uncertain, but Mike is optimistic, though he's still a bit in shock over how this came about.Two recent studies suggest the flu can trigger strokes and lead to a prolonged risk lasting months. In Dave's case, he will survive his stroke. "Very thankful and very grateful. My brother has always been a stubborn, forceful man ...
