Even as the COVID-19 pandemic rages on and the Trump administration continues to contest the results of the 2020 presidential election, the White House plans to hold its annual turkey pardoning ceremony next week, according to CNN and Fox News.President Donald Trump will reportedly take part in the annual tradition on Tuesday afternoon when he will issue a formal pardon to two Iowa turkeys - Corn and Cob.The public can vote for which turkey they'd like to see President Trump pardon and receive the title National Thanksgiving Turkey.According to The White House's Facebook page, Corn and Cob will stay at The Willard until the annual White House Turkey Pardon on Tuesday. In the past, the Turkey Pardoning Ceremony at the White House has drawn a crowd of spectators at the Rose Garden. It's unclear if the 2020 ceremony will be held in front of spectators.Trump has largely laid low since Election Day. He's held just three on-camera events since Nov. 3, one of which was a Veteran's Day ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery, at which he did not address reporters. According to CNN, outside of playing a few rounds of golf on the weekends, Trump has not left the White House in several weeks.Following Tuesday's ceremony, the turkeys will live out their lives at Iowa State University. Last year, Trump pardoned two turkeys, "Bread" and "Butter," both of whom were sent to live at Virginia Tech following the ceremony.Legend has it that the first president to issue a pardon to a turkey was Abraham Lincoln, who did so at the request of his son. The first recorded pardon of a White House turkey was issued by President John F. Kennedy in 1963.While the Trumps typically spend the Thanksgiving holiday in Florida at their Mar-a-Lago estate, first lady Melania Trump announced this week the family would remain at the White House in 2020. 1852

Federal prosecutors announced Wednesday that they have struck a non-prosecution agreement with National Enquirer parent company American Media Inc., effectively ruling out charges for the tabloid publisher over its role in securing hush money from President Trump's longtime personal lawyer Michael Cohen. As part of the agreement, AMI admitted to making a payment of 0,000 in cooperation with members of Trump's presidential campaign in order to prevent former Playboy model Karen McDougal's claims of an affair with Trump from being made public during the 2016 race.AMI chairman David Pecker is a longtime friend of Trump's, and the Enquirer was one of Trump's most reliable and enthusiastic media boosters during the campaign.Pecker met with Cohen "and at least one other member of the campaign" in August of 2015, according to the non-prosecution agreement, which was struck with prosecutors from the office of the U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of New York."At the meeting, Pecker offered to help deal with negative stories about that presidential candidate's relationships with women by, among other things, assisting the campaign in identifying such stories so they could be purchased and their publication avoided," the agreement read. "Pecker agreed to keep Cohen apprised of any such negative stories."Details of the payment to McDougal emerged in 2016, mere days before the election, when the Wall Street Journal reported about her agreement with the Enquirer. At the time, AMI insisted that it "has not paid people to kill damaging stories about Mr. Trump." The reported agreement drew wider attention earlier this year following a story published by The New Yorker, which shed light on the tabloid practice of "catch and kill," wherein a publication purchases a story purely so it won't run. McDougal signed a contract worth 0,000, granting AMI "exclusive ownership of her account of any romantic, personal, or physical relationship she has ever had with any 'then-married man,'" the New Yorker reported. The news of the non-prosecution agreement comes the same day that Cohen was sentenced to three years in prison for his role in the matter. In a statement, the SDNY said, "Assuming AMI's continued compliance with the agreement, the Office has agreed not to prosecute AMI for its role in that payment."A spokesperson for AMI declined to comment. 2421

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — As San Diego County rolls back again into the more-restrictive purple tier, the city of Escondido is coming together to make sure their small businesses survive the newest rollback. In Escondido, Carol Rogers is involved with the Downtown Business Association and the Chamber of Commerce, plus she also owns Stone and Glass, a glass blowing shop. She said everyone has been feeling the impact for the past eight months, but they’re finding ways to adapt. For her glass store, she said online sales have been what kept her afloat.RELATED: San Diego County moves into California's COVID-19 purple tier, new state data shows“Our online sales are phenomenal. It’s what’s kept us in business. It is the only thing that’s kept us in business,” said Rogers. She said she and the organizations she works with have created different plans to help all small businesses. During the summer, they closed down a lane of traffic along the main street and added cement barricades, creating a space for stores to add tables to the sidewalks. Some types of businesses were able to use the space, but others were not.“What we found is the restaurants did it. I works for the restaurants, but retail is not using the space,” she said, discussing the outdoor sidewalk addition. In the spirit of unity, they decided to not waste the outdoor space, so Rogers created an art walk that happened Saturday, Nov. 14. Artists and creators were able to move into unused street space and host pop-up shops, giving them business that has been missing since their local Second Saturday stopped in March. In addition to the stores moving outside and artists popping up for a Saturday afternoon, the community has also stepped up to add life to the cement barricades that block off the outdoor sidewalk space. Starting in the summer, a few cement blocks were painted by artists, and that has continued. Now, Grand Avenue is lined with multi-colored pieces of art.“There’s been professional artists, there’s been people that just want to paint, there’s children,” said artist Tristan Pittard, who was working on his cement canvas Saturday.Pittard said the art is an additional motivator for people to visit the area and support local businesses.“Art in general affects peoples psyche and public art is important for that because people might not be exposed to art otherwise,” said Pittard. For Rogers, the combination of the art walk with the painted cement shows the unity of the people, and gives her hope that Escondido will survive another rollback. She said she hopes the art walk will become a monthly event.“The more that we can do this, we believe the more people will come. This makes people comfortable. We’re outside. We’re far apart. It’s safe,” she said. 2760

ESCONDIDO, Calif. (KGTV) — A Vietnam veteran who is struggling with memory issues says a "mistake" could cause him to be evicted from his Escondido apartment.Orrin Donohoe's studio apartment in the Adult Village complex isn't spacious, but it is home. For how long?"I'm scared of what's going to happen to me," said Donohoe.Donohoe, who served as a deckhand for three years on the USS Columbus CG-12 during the Vietnam War, was later diagnosed with PTSD. "Constantly stressed, afraid I'm going to forget something," said Donohoe.Problems with short-term memory steadily grew worse."Missing doctor's appointments, missed bills, forgetting to get gas, forgetting to check the mail. Goes on and on," said Donohoe. The memory issues that cost him so many jobs could now cost him his home. Donohoe depends on Section 8 housing vouchers to pay most of his rent. A few days ago, Donohoe got a letter from his landlord: A three-day notice to pay his overdue rent.Donohoe believes he forgot to fill out the paperwork for the annual renewal for his housing voucher."Scared and depressed," said Donohoe. He owes more than 0 for this month's rent."I don't have it. I have a 0 in the bank and I haven't paid my electric yet," said Donohoe. Donohoe thinks he could be evicted at any moment. He says the County Housing Authority told him he could reapply for a voucher in six months. Until then, he'll likely have to live on the streets."No sense of security ... I'm frightened," said Donohoe. The County Housing Authority is reviewing the case but declined to talk specifics, citing confidentiality.A Gofundme campaign has been set up to help raise funds for Donohoe. 1664

FBI Director Chris Wray told senators Wednesday that the FBI's investigation into Christine Blasey Ford's sexual assault allegation against Supreme Court Justice Brett Kavanaugh was "limited in scope" and thus "consistent with the standard process."Ford accused Kavanaugh of sexually assaulting her at a house party when the two were in high school. Both Ford and Kavanaugh testified before the Senate Judiciary Committee last month, prompting the weeklong FBI investigation and hundreds to protest on Capitol Hill. The Senate reviewed the FBI's findings after they were sent it last Thursday and confirmed Kavanaugh by a 50-48 vote Saturday afternoon. Kavanaugh has denied all allegations against him.During a Senate Judiciary Committee hearing Wednesday, California Democrat Sen. Kamala Harris asked Wray if the FBI was given full discretion over the investigation or whether it was limited by directions from the White House."Unlike most investigations like the sort that you and I and (Democratic Sen. Doug Jones of Alabama) have all been familiar with -- traditional criminal investigations, national security investigations -- a background investigation is very different," Wray replied. "Our only authority is as requested by the adjudicating agency -- in this case is the White House." 1301
