DANBURY, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut town's officials are showing comedian John Oliver what they think about his expletive-filled rant about their city — they're naming the local sewage treatment plant after him.Mayor Mark Boughton announced the tongue-in-cheek move in a video posted on his Facebook page on Saturday."We are going to rename it the John Oliver Memorial Sewer Plant," Boughton said in the video while standing in front of the sewage plant. "Why? Because it's full of (crap) just like you, John."The new name comes after a recent episode of HBO's "Last Week Tonight with John Oliver," in which he explored the racial disparities in the jury selection process, citing problems in a few Connecticut towns. In the August 16 episode, Oliver named off three things he knew about the time, one of which was a "standing invite to come to get a thrashing from John Oliver."It wasn't exactly clear what prompted Oliver to go off on Danbury. An agent for Oliver did not return a message Sunday. 1004

DENVER, Colo. — A Colorado man is trying to find the silver lining in the wildfires by turning his photography into an opportunity to help those affected most.Jeremy Janus was driving back to Denver from Rocky Mountain National Arsenal Friday and he couldn’t believe his eyes.“I saw the smoke plume coming toward Denver and as much as it pained me I knew I had to take photos of it,” Janus said.Janus captured four photos of the smokey skies enhancing the beauty of the sunset.“This photo is called the “Nature That Binds Us,” Janus said. “While I knew these trees were going to be fine, far off in the distance there is also a lot of wildlife and nature that’s also getting destroyed.”He got into photography four years ago to heal a battle with depression and anxiety. Now he runs his own business called Jeremy Janus Photography.“Because of my background where I came from in photography, being a light in the darkness, how do you make positive situations out of bad ones?” Janus said. “I don’t want to profit off of devastation.”Janus has agreed to sell the photos and donate the money to Denver7 Gives.Denver7 is working with United Way of Larimer County and Community Foundation of Boulder County to ensure every dollar raised helps Coloradans who have lost so much.“My heart broke just seeing this because it made me think about all the people affected by it, all the wildlife, wilderness,” he said. The photos start at . DENVER, Colo. — Broncos CEO Joe Ellis and General Manager John Elway have tested positive for COVID-19 as the virus continues to hit the organization hard.Ellis woke up not feeling well last Sunday and missed his first Broncos home game in 26 years, watching from home as a precaution. Elway began experiencing symptoms on Monday, alerted the medical staff, and left UCHealth Training Center immediately. Elway and Ellis learned of their test results on Tuesday morning. They are feeling well, other than minor symptoms, the team said. Statement from the Broncos: pic.twitter.com/PPYuJQedZN— Denver Broncos (@Broncos) November 3, 2020 The Broncos have gone through contact tracing and determined that Ellis and Elway's cases were independent of one another. They believe both cases originated outside the building. According to the team, there were minimal close contacts identified for each and none included coaches or players. Those in close contact have been notified.Ellis and Elway have been tested daily since training camp began in August. The Broncos have experienced a rash of positive tests beginning 17 days ago with running backs coach Curtis Modkins, which placed the team in intensive protocols that they have not lifted. Those protocols include virtual meetings and mask-wearing for players on the field when helmets are off. Modkins has returned to work. However, defensive coordinator Ed Donatell, offensive line coach Mike Munchak and starting right guard Graham Glasgow have been isolated because of COVID-19. The organization has also had multiple staff employees test positive.During a Tuesday conference call, Dr. Allen Sills, the NFL's Chief Medical Officer, called the several positive cases for the Broncos "certainly a concerning situation for us." The league has maintained contact with the Broncos over the last two-plus weeks, saying Denver has cooperated and "done an excellent job" with its intensive protocols, which they have remained in since Modkins' positive test."At this point, we feel there’s not ongoing transmission among the players," Sills said.Broncos coaches are working remotely today as they begin game preparations for Sunday's game at Atlanta. The next few days will be important for Broncos because of travel and being in close quarters on the airplane. If a player is not feeling well -- even without a positive test -- he is not allowed to travel. So being healthy as of Saturday is critical. This story was first reported by Troy Renck at KMGH in Denver, Colorado. 2537

DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - A horse died Monday at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, the fourth death at the track since the start of the summer racing season in July. “We are saddened to confirm that Bri Bri, an unraced three-year-old filly, was humanely euthanized today after suffering a serious injury to her pelvis during training,” the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club read in a statement. “We are deeply sorry for her and her human connections.” Emergency personnel and track veterinarians responded to the emergency immediately, said DMTC officials. Del Mar was among the nation’s safest racetracks last year, but experienced the deaths of two horses on the second day of the season. Charge A Bunch, trained by Carla Gaines, ran headfirst into Carson Valley, trained by Bob Baffert. Another of Baffert’s horses, Bowl of Soul, had a fetlock injury and was euthanized less than two weeks later. Bri Bri was trained by Jim Cassidy. Track officials said they will meet with him to discuss the matter. “Del Mar has implemented a series of safety and welfare reforms over the last several racing seasons, including the creation of an independent five-member panel to review all entries. To date, there have been no fatal injuries during racing in the current summer meet,” said DMTC officials. 1284
