More and more recognizable names are disappearing from shopping malls around the country while experts have said the mall as we know it is dying, but they could be saved by Generation Z.“I’d say at least like once a week I try to go to the mall just to see what’s going on and what’s new, even if I don’t get anything, it's just really nice to try on clothing,” Erin Brod of Medina, Ohio, said.Brod and her best friend Lauren Romano are both 17. That makes them a part of Generation Z, or the group of people born between 1995 and 2010.And they’re the generation now being credited with maybe saving the malls.“I think 20-year-olds, they do more online shopping and it's still surprising that teenagers still come out to the mall and stuff and I know a lot of them are closing, but I still think teenagers enjoy trying stuff on more,” Romano said.The International Council of Shopping Centers has data to back that up.Between February and April of last year, 95 percent of Gen Zers went to a mall at least once, while only 75 percent of millennials and 58 percent of Gen Xers went during that same time period.And though experts say Gen Zers online shop too, there are a few reasons why they still like doing things the old-fashioned way.“One of the things for them is a sense of legitimacy, this idea that this is a legitimate place to order from online if they have a brick and mortar store. Researchers from the British Psychological Society released a report last week challenging stereotypes on why people are obese. The report states that "obesity is not simply down to an individual’s lack of willpower." The report claims there are a number of circumstances, some of which beyond a person's control, for becoming obese. "The people who are most likely to be an unhealthy weight are those who have a high genetic risk of developing obesity and whose lives are also shaped by work, school and social environments that promote overeating and inactivity," the BPS report says. "People who live in deprived areas often experience high levels of stress, including major life challenges and trauma, often their neighborhoods offer few opportunities and incentives for physical activity and options for accessing affordable healthy food are limited.""Research evidence points strongly to genes being a major part of the explanation for why some people are more susceptible to becoming obese than others," the BPS report continues.The report comes as 40 percent of American adults are considered obese, according to CDC figures.Fat shaming does not workThree weeks ago, late night comedian Bill Maher gave a controversial dialog on obesity, which he admitted was "fat shaming." TAMPA, Fla. — An alarming new study found certain engines in Kia and Hyundai vehicles are more likely to catch fire than any other vehicles on the road, according to a report by Scripps affiliate WFTS-TV in Tampa.Matt Moore, who oversaw the engine study at the Highway Loss Data Institute, reported Kia and Hyundai vehicles with two-liter, turbocharged engines were more than three times more likely to catch fire than engines in any other similar-sized vehicle on U.S. roads.“These things tend to be very catastrophic,” Moore told I-Team Investigator Jackie Callaway. “An increase of three and half a times the control population is a serious problem.”Those engines are found in 2011 to 2015 Kia Optima, 2011 to 2014 Hyundai Sonatas and 2013 to 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe Sports.The automakers have recalled most of those vehicles since January. Hyundai points out that it started recalling vehicles back in 2015 and again in 2017. The automakers have yet to recall all vehicles running on another potentially hazardous engine – a 2.4-liter model that the institute found is nearly two times more likely to catch fire. The automaker does say however that they have recalled many models that contained the 2.4 liter engine.That was the same engine in Kirstin Wilson’s 2016 Kia Sportage when it burst into flames as she drove down a Georgia highway last summer.“It literally blew up in front of us with all of our stuff in it,” said Wilson.But Wilson’s SUV is not among the hundreds of thousands of models Kia recently recalled for fire hazards.A Kia spokesman said the automaker negotiated a resolution with Wilson because she only owned the vehicle for one month before the incident.Fernanda Krueger’s 2016 Kia Sorento is also not on the recall list – even though her SUV with a 2.4-liter engine burned up last April in San Diego.“I was driving with my car on fire,” said Krueger.Kia and Hyundai have recalled nearly 700,000 vehicles since January, but the Center for Auto Safety told the I-Team that’s still not enough. She started her alterations business in Santa Fe, New Mexico, in 2008 at a time when many people might have given up. She came to the United States in 2004 with her husband and her four children.
