A rocket ship designed and built by Elon Musk’s SpaceX company has lifted off with two Americans on a history-making flight to the International Space Station. The spacecraft took off Saturday afternoon from the same launch pad at Cape Canaveral, Florida, that was used during the Apollo missions to the moon a half-century ago. It’s the first time a private company is launching NASA astronauts to space and the first time in nine years that American astronauts are departing from U.S. soil.Since the end of the space shuttle program in 2011, NASA astronauts have been hitching rides to the International Space Station onboard Russian Soyuz rockets launched from Kazakhstan. The astronauts undertaking this mission are Robert Behnken and Doug Hurley. The pair is expected to spend at least a month – and possibly as long as four months – on the International Space Station. If you missed the launch, you can watch it in the video above. After NASA declared Saturday's launch a success, President Donald Trump delivered a speech from the Kennedy Space Center, saying the launch proved that the "commercial space industry was the future" of space exploration."We'll be landing on Mars soon, and we'll soon have the greatest weapons the world has ever seen," Trump said. 1277

A shooting at a bowling alley late Friday left three men dead and four people wounded in Southern California, and police are trying to find whoever fired the shots, authorities said. The gunshots at the Gable House Bowl in Torrance went off just before midnight. A fight -- first involving young ladies, then men -- happened shortly beforehand, sending people running, a witness said."Then ... maybe a minute and a half later, all of the sudden all we heard was, pop, pop, pop," the witness, Dana Scott, told RMG News. "Bowlers were diving under the benches. The people that were still bowling on the lanes were on the floors, underneath the seats.""People were looking for their parents, because this is a family league. You've got mothers, fathers, sons, daughters ... everybody's friends in that league," she said.No arrests were immediately reported after the shooting. City police were "working to identify the suspect(s) involved," they said in a news release.By late Saturday morning, relatives of those who were shot were clustered outside the bowling alley, standing behind yellow police tape. More said. "How does my sister-in-law tell this little boy that daddy is gone? Just gone."The names of the dead and wounded weren't immediately released.Witness: 'People started to run'A man who says he was in a karaoke area of the building when the shooting happened described a scene of panic."People started to run inside the karaoke (area), shouting, 'Gunshot, gunshot, gunshot,'" the man, identified on Facebook as D Ryon Thomas, says in a video posted to the social network.Staff ushered people into an area in the back of the building, he said.Police ask public for videoDetectives are going to examine surveillance video recorded inside the building, Torrance police Sgt. A visibly shaken Beto O'Rourke announced Saturday he was cutting a campaign stop in Las Vegas short to return to his hometown of El Paso, Texas, following early reports of a fatal shooting there.Multiple people were killed Saturday in a shooting in the area of the Cielo Vista Mall, according to local police."I'm thinking about El Paso, I want you to be thinking about El Paso as well," O'Rourke told the audience, taking the stage Saturday at a labor union forum in Las Vegas. The 2020 Democratic presidential candidate and former Texas congressman also shared that he called his wife, Amy, immediately after he received the news."She's driving with my daughter Molly and to talk to her," O'Rourke said, his voice wavering. "Just a real reminder of what's most important at the end of the day for all of us."O'Rourke said that the shooting shatters "any illusion that we had that progress is inevitable or that the change that we need is going to come of its own accord.""There is no luxury in this democracy of sitting this one out, whether it is gun violence, whether it is many of the issues we discuss today," O'Rourke said, adding, "It is on every single one of us to make this right."In a media gaggle soon after his appearance, he told reporters he was incredibly saddened."It is very hard to think about this," he said. "But I tell you, El Paso is the strongest place in the world. This community's going to come together. I'm going back there right now to be with my family and to be with my hometown."When initial reports of a shooting surfaced, O'Rourke tweeted, "Truly heartbreaking. Stay safe, El Paso. Please follow all directions of emergency personnel as we continue to get more updates."O'Rourke was born in El Paso and in 2012 was elected to represent Texas' 16th Congressional District, which includes El Paso and the surrounding area.Other 2020 Democratic candidates also responded to the shooting while attending the labor forum hosted by the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees.Marianne Williamson, a native of Houston, offered prayers for the people of El Paso and "prayers for all the rest of us as well, that we might summon up the courage to remove this scourge from out midst."Julián Castro, formerly the mayor of San Antonio, 2292
