When Jill Promoli lost her 2-year-old son, Jude, to the flu, she posted about it on her Facebook page. Then, she was attacked by anti-vaxxers. "I got a lot of people accusing me of actually murdering Jude and using flu as an excuse to cover up my crime,” Promoli says. Anti-vaxxers said she'd caused her son's death by giving him a flu shot. Some even going so far as to say she'd intentionally killed her son. "The first time it made me feel really sick,” she recalls. “The idea that somebody could even suggest that I would do something that would hurt any of them." She's not the only one under attack. At a recent CDC meeting, the organization brought in extra security, and doctors who say vaccines save lives have received death threats. On Facebook, anti-vaxxers called for Dr. Richard Pan, a pediatrician and California state senator, to be shot. One wrote, "I hope they stone you to death." That's why one mom, Erin Costello, uses a fake Facebook account to spy on dozens of anti-vaccination groups. She says when a child dies, that’s when anti-vaxxers come together to harass people online. "They ask the other group members, 'Come on. Let's go hit them with our truth, with our information. Let's go educate them.' Basically, let's go harass them," she says. When Costello sees comments like that, she warns other parents. But Larry Cook, who leads the anti-vaccine movement, says of the millions of comments on his Facebook group each month, those about parents who lose children after being vaccinated are a small number. Cook says anti-vaxxers get harassed by pro-vaxxers. As for Promoli, she says she's fighting back against the harassment following her son’s death. She’s launching a campaign to encourage people to get flu shots and remains determined not to let the anti-vaxxers stop her."I don't want anyone to ever lose their child again," Promoli says. 1886

A 10-year-old migrant child died while in the care of the Department of Health and Human Services' Office of Refugee Resettlement in September of last year, according to department spokesman Mark Weber. The girl, whose death was not reported publicly for nearly eight months, is now the sixth migrant child known to have recently died after journeying to the US and being apprehended by federal authorities. Her death predates the five children known to have died.In a statement, Weber said the 10-year-old girl entered the office's care in San Antonio in March 2018. She had a history of congenital heart defects. He said the child had surgery complications that left her in a comatose state. She was transported to a nursing facility in Phoenix and later transported to Children's Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska, where she died due to fever and respiratory distress on September 29, according to Weber. When asked by CNN why HHS did not announce the death of the 10-year-old girl at the time, Weber said they had prepared a statement at the time of her death but 1071
A ground search team in the Indian Himalayas has spotted five bodies on the unnamed peak where eight climbers are believed to have gone missing a week ago.Pithoragarh District Magistrate Vijay Kumar Jogdande told CNN Monday that the bodies appear to be partially buried in an avalanche on the peak in different locations. The bodies were identified following analysis of photographs taken by a helicopter that conducted an air survey of the area earlier in the day.By Monday afternoon local time, the search operation had stopped for the day, Jogdande said. Now, authorities are formulating a plan to recover the bodies. On Sunday, helicopter teams saw signs of an avalanche on the peak the group were thought to be on, according to two state officials. On Monday a lone chopper went to recce the area and its crew discovered the backpack at an elevation of about 5,000 meters.Jogdande said it was likely the missing team had been caught up in a "huge avalanche.""The chances of survival are almost zero now," he said. The missing climbers -- four Britons, two Americans, an Australian and their Indian liaison officer -- went missing in the region of Nanda Devi East, one of the highest peaks in India at just over 7,400 meters (24,000 feet.)The group was attempting to scale a previously unclimbed and unnamed peak believed to be about 6,477 meters (21,250 feet) high, according to 1393
A 4-year-old girl and four family members are recovering after a bobcat attack on Mt. Graham. Two campgrounds are closed with Arizona Game and Fish trying to catch and kill the cat they suspect has rabies. Has more on what officials are calling an extreme and bizarre animal attack. Game and Fish says they won't know for sure until they catch and test the animal, but this is simply not the behavior of a healthy bobcat. They say it needs to be destroyed. “The behavior is extreme by any reasonable standard. This is not someone coming across a bobcat and quickly being bit and the bobcat running off, this is sustained attacks on human beings,” said Arizona Game and Fish Spokesperson Mark Hart. The Family camping on Mt. Graham survived a traumatic experience Sunday. “A year-old girl ran behind the tent, her mother heard screaming, and they came around the tent to see she was being attacked by a bobcat, on the ground bitten at least once in the head.”The girl's father, two uncles, and a teenage girl came to her aid and the bobcat attacked them too. Hart says mountain lions can target children, but a healthy bobcat never would. “A bobcat is going to be more interested in an antelope squirrel or a rodent, not a human being it’s too big, the child was bigger than the bobcat.”The girl was treated for rabies exposure at a nearby hospital. Her family needed to go to two other hospitals to get the vaccine. All have been released. “Once symptoms onset rabies is almost always fatal. If you are exhibiting symptoms the vaccine won't work but if you get it before symptoms onset your life will be saved.”Shannon and Snow Flat campgrounds have been closed to the public. “We are on scene today setting traps and using predator calls in an attempt to lure the bobcat in, it has to be destroyed.”Hart says rabies are more common in foxes, bats, and skunks but the disease can be spread to other animals. He says to stay away from dead animal remains because it can be passed that way also. 2006
