The United States Coast Guard embodies the saying, "always ready."When forecasting natural disasters, however, those two words become much more than a motto -- they could mean the difference between life and death.“With natural disasters, they’re unpredictable," said USCG Capt. Will Watson, commander, Sector New Orleans. "There’s uncertainty but what you have to do is lean back on your training.” With U.S. Coast Guard stations across the country on standby, Watson said his teams are ready to help whenever and wherever they are needed.“When the time comes, and you face something that you maybe weren’t otherwise prepared for, that’s when you exercise on-scene initiative,” he said. “You think critically. You think creatively. Remain adaptable and flexible and act.”Southeast Louisiana locals are calling the U.S. Coast Guard, “heroes,” saying they saved more than lives during past natural disasters.“One day, I got stuck in a boat and they come over here, five of them come here, and helped me out,” said local fisherman Tony Buffone, who lost his house during Hurricane Katrina -- one of the most deadly and expensive natural disasters to hit U.S. soil.During recent storms, Buffone is now using lessons he learned from the U.S. Coast Guard.“It’s good to have good Coast Guard,” he said. “We got a good Coast Guard crew right there.”As the Gulf Coast deals with another massive hurricane, the U.S. Coast Guard is doing what it does best: staying “always ready”.“We have resources, assets, people from all across the Coast Guard ready to support this fight,” Watson said. “And we’re ready; ready to respond to Hurricane Laura.” 1643

The toy run in December is usually one of the big ways Children's Hospital Colorado gets donated toys. But because of COVID-19, the supply of toys is down considerably. So the hospital reached out to some riders, and Sunday, they got a special delivery to help replenish that supply.Kids at Children's Hospital know when they hear those Harley engines roar, toys are on the way."Any motorcycles coming up to the hospital, the kids plaster themselves the windows. They love to see the bikes riding up," volunteer Bob Cuculich said."That's why we do it. It's things like this that make it all worthwhile," organizer Eddie Dane said. But it's not December when this toy run usually happens."Because of COVID this year, the hospital reached out to Rocky Mountain Harley Davidson, because we're a sponsor to the toy run and have been for years," Dane said.Dozens of bikers answered the last minute call to help."They're not reusing toys. So we are are going to replenish their supply and do the best we can to get them some more toys to last them until December," Dane said. They didn't know how many bikers would show. They just knew they needed to try to help the kids."There's a huge need," Cuculich said. But the roars were there, filling up the bins, and they hope more toys can be brought. Just no stuffed animals right now."Plush toys right now, they are just too hard to keep clean, and infection control just makes it a challenge to be able to give those to the kids," Cuculich added. The bikers hope this special delivery makes the kids happy and lasts until the main ride in December. Just a little Christmas in July.KMGH's Sean Towle first reported this story. 1671

The White House chief of staff says President Donald Trump has tested negative for the coronavirus ahead of Thursday night’s second and final presidential debate.Mark Meadows says Trump was tested onboard Air Force One while en route to Nashville, Tennessee, and tested negative.Biden’s campaign said Thursday that he, too, was tested Thursday and tested negative. The test comes after Trump’s bout with the virus, which put him in the hospital for three nights. Both campaigns had been required to certify that their candidates and VIP guests have tested negative ahead of the debates. But Trump and the White House have repeatedly refused to say whether Trump actually was tested before participating in the first.Trump was diagnosed with the virus two days later. 772
