The bull market turns 3,453 days old on Wednesday. It's the longest period of uninterrupted gains in American history. The remarkable run began on March 9, 2009, in the ashes of the Great Recession and the scariest financial crisis since the 1930s. The slow-but-steady economic recovery, coupled with unprecedented aid from the Federal Reserve, catapulted the Dow from around 6,500 to nearly 26,000 today. The S&P 500 has quadrupled from its 2009 low of 666. And market darlings like Netflix and Amazon have skyrocketed much further. The bull market narrowly survived countless panic attacks from crisis-scarred investors along the way. There was the downgrade of America's credit rating in 2011, the feared collapse of the euro, China's alarming economic slowdown and the dramatic crash in oil prices.Yet each scare failed to derail the steady rise of the economy and corporate profits that has underpinned Wall Street's record-breaking run. There were close calls, but the S&P 500 never dropped 20%, the trigger for a new bear market. 1050

The Detroit Lions will play Tampa Bay without interim coach Darrell Bevell, making him the NFL’s first head coach to miss a game because of COVID-19 protocols.Detroit’s coaching staff will also be without defensive coordinator Cory Undlin, defensive line coach Bo Davis, defensive backs coach Steve Gregory, and linebackers coach Ty McKenzie in Week 16.Wide receivers coach Robert Prince will be the team’s third head coach this season on Saturday at Ford Field against the Buccaneers.Bevell was 1-2 after Matt Patricia was fired last month. Quarterbacks coach Sean Ryan will call plays in place of Bevell, who also serves as the team’s offensive coordinator, against the Bucs. Evan Rothstein, who helps the team with research and analysis, will lead the defensive staff.Bevell said Wednesday he had not tested positive for COVID-19, but he was one of the coaches affected by contact tracing. The Lions closed their training facility on Tuesday because one player and one coach tested positive for the coronavirus, and resumed on-field preparations on Wednesday to face Tampa Bay. 1088

The digital news company Mic has laid off most of its staff, a spokesperson for the company confirmed. The layoffs were first reported Thursday by Recode. It is not yet clear exactly how many employees were affected. Mic declined to comment beyond confirming the Recode report. The company was founded in 2011, and for the past several years has branded itself as a news website geared toward millennials.Mic Publisher Cory Haik also resigned Thursday. In a note to staff that was obtained by CNN Business, Haik called journalism a "tough business.""Our business models are unsettled, and the macro forces at play are all going through their own states of unrest," she wrote. "If anyone tells you they have it figured out, a special plan to save us all, or that it's all due to a singular fault, know that is categorically false. Like the truth, it is indeed complicated."Mic was once a digital media darling, attracting around million in funding from investors. Its biggest backers included Lightspeed Venture Partners, Clark Jermoluk Founders Fund, WPP and WarnerMedia. (WarnerMedia owns CNN.)The company's staff swelled to more than 100 people by early 2016, according to The New York Times, which asked in an article published at the time: "What happens when millennials run the workplace?"But the climate is a tough one for digital media publishers right now. Ad revenue alone hasn't been enough to support these businesses, and Google and Facebook have substantial control over the ad market.Refinery29, HuffPost and Vocativ have all cut staff in the past year. So have CNN Digital, Vice and BuzzFeed.Mic laid off 25 employees in August 2017 as part of a pivot to video. Co-founder and CEO Chris Altchek told staff at the time that the shift was needed because "visual journalism already makes up 75% of the time that our audience spends" with the site. There were signs this year that the environment wasn't improving for Mic. Digiday reported in April that traffic to Mic's website had been plunging. The article also noted that Mic was very reliant on Facebook, citing statistics that showed views on the social media site fell to 11 million views in March compared to 192 million about a year earlier.Still, company executives pushed back on some reports that characterized the situation at Mic as particularly dire. When the Columbia Journalism Review reported in September that the company's board discussed a possible shutdown, Altchek called the report "categorically false."Emily Singer, a senior political reporter at Mic, tweeted Thursday that she was leaving the company."I'm so proud of what we've accomplished here," Singer wrote.Kerry Lauerman, Mic's executive news director, tweeted about the "gutting experience" Thursday."But only love for the extremely resilient and open-hearted team of Mic editors, producers, writers and shooters I had the great honor of working with," he added. "They performed brilliantly often under a cloud of uncertainty."Reached by phone, Lauerman declined to comment further, saying only that the team was packing up all of their things.Several other employees also tweeted news of their departures."I have so much to say, but most importantly the time I spent at @mic was the best of my career," wrote Managing Editor Colleen Curry. "I learned so, so much from brilliant people dedicated to keeping journalism alive."Mic is also in talks to sell at least part of the company to Bustle Digital Group, Recode reported Wednesday. A source with knowledge of the potential deal confirmed that report to CNN Business. 3572

The Cambridge Analytica scandal has had a number of serious repercussions for Facebook, its users, and the future of privacy around the world. It also temporarily stopped single people from finding true love on Tinder.Shortly after Facebook announced stricter rules for its third-party developers, popular dating app Tinder stopped working. Singles who tried to get some swiping in on their lunch breaks weren't allowed to log in to the app. A pop-up window said "Tinder requires you to provide additional Facebook permissions in order to create or use a Tinder account." Like many apps, Tinder primarily lets people log in with their Facebook credentials."This was part of the changes that we announced today, and we are working with Tinder to address this issue," a Facebook spokesperson told CNN Tech.Upset Tinder users took to Twitter to vent.Facebook is still recovering from revelations that Cambridge Analytica, a data firm with connections to the Trump campaign, accessed the data of millions of its users. Facebook has been rushing to repair its relationship with users, and prevent any future misuses of data by third-parties.On Wednesday, it announced changes to what personal information apps can collect."We will also no longer allow apps to ask for access to personal information such as religious or political views, relationship status and details, custom friends lists, education and work history, fitness activity, book reading activity, music listening activity, news reading, video watch activity, and games activity," Facebook said in its post.It is unclear exactly which part of Facebook's updates caused the issues with Tinder. The app shows you information about potential paramours like age, location and where they went to school. Other dating apps that use Facebook to login, like Bumble, did not experience outages. After Tinder was fixed, many users said their matches were all missing. After a few hours, those matches appeared to have been restored as well.As off Wednesday afternoon, people were able to use the app and -- if only for a moment -- feel a little less alone in the world. 2123

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said on Thursday that it’s investigating salmonella cases linked to pet bearded dragons and hedgehogs. The CDC said that 13 salmonella infections in eight states have been potentially tied to handling the pets. The CDC confirmed that seven of the infections resulted in hospitalizations. Ten of the 13 ill people reported contact with a bearded dragon. Those who reported illnesses said they purchased bearded dragons from pet stores, but a common supplier has not been identified. The CDC said that two similar outbreaks were tied to hedgehogs in the last decade. The CDC offers owners of pet bearded dragons and hedgehogs the following tips:Always wash hands thoroughly with soap and water right after touching your pet or anything in its environment.Don’t kiss or snuggle your pet because this can spread Salmonella germs to your face and mouth and make youKeep your pet out of your kitchen and other areas where you eat, store, or prepare food.Clean items you use to care for your pet outside the house, if possible. If you clean the items indoors, clean them in a laundry sink or bathtub. Make sure to thoroughly disinfect the area right after.Don’t let children younger than 5 touch the bearded dragon or hedgehog because young children are more likely to have severe Salmonella illness. Before bringing home a new pet, research the pet’s needs and see if it’s a good fit for your family. 1444
