A top Republican official in the area President Donald Trump is visiting Tuesday is asking him to wear a mask. The president held a campaign rally event inside an airport hangar in Winston-Salem. The campaign has said masks, hand sanitizer and temperature checks will be provided for attendees.Dave Plyler, the Republican chairman of the Forsyth County Board of Commissioners, told local media he believes Trump should wear a mask while visiting."It's been ordered by the governor," Plyler said of the state's face-covering mandate. "When in Rome, do as the Romans do. When in North Carolina, do as the governor says."Trump took the stage Tuesday evening without a mask on. While some in attendance, especially those seated directly behind Trump, wore masks, the majority did not, according to photos submitted by the Associated Press.North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper’s mask mandate is still in effect. Cooper is a democrat."He (Trump) is a citizen of the United States, but he is also a guest in our county," Plyler told the Winston-Salem Journal. "Without a mask, he could get sick, and he could blame the governor."Plyler is a supporter of the president and is pleased he is making the trip to Winston-Salem. However, he believes if Trump wore a mask, it would set the right example for other people."You know what would be neat? If before he got off the plane if he gave everybody a box of Make America Great Again masks," Plyler told CNN.The president has encouraged wearing masks and keeping socially distant during the pandemic. However, he is rarely seen in one in public. He has worn a mask on a few occasions in public, including during a visit in July to Walter Reed National Military Medical Center.North Carolina reported just over 1,000 new coronavirus cases on Monday. The state has reported a total of around 180,000 cases and 2,930 deaths. Forsyth county, where Winston-Salem is located, has reported 6,457 cases and 82 deaths from coronavirus. 1969

A Michigan couple faced discrimination due to their sexual orientation, but because of the state's laws, it’s legal. They’re sharing their story because of a new national campaign called Beyond I Do.The campaign highlights states that are legally allowed to discriminate due to sexual orientation, for things like employment, housing and social services, doctors visits or dining at a restaurant.Jami and Krista Contreras are a couple from Oak Park, Michigan. Three years ago, they became new parents and brought their six-day-old newborn to a local pediatrician, but they were denied care. "Your doctor prayed on it and decided she won't see you all today,” Krista Contreras claims one employee at the doctor's office said. The couple was floored. They said they had personally experienced discrimination for their sexual orientation, but they never though it would directly carry over to their newborn in this way.“We spoke to other people and they would say well they can’t do that… that’s not legal and we looked into it and it was legal,” Jami Contreras said.According to the Beyond I Do campaign, 31 states including Michigan don’t have protections for this kind of discrimination. “It was horrifying and humiliating and we just kept thinking god she's 6 days old and she’s already experiencing discrimination,” said Krista. 1358
A scary moment happened for parents and young kids when a fight broke out at the Lied Memorial Boys and Girls Club near Lindell Road and Edna Avenue in Las Vegas. It's not clear yet how it all started but from the video, it appears that a number of adults were involved. But what concerns parents most is there were a lot of young children, even babies in the audience when the fight started. What seemed like a heated argument turns into a fistfight within seconds. People were throwing wild punches, shoving and tackling each other as others tried to break the fight.Scripps station KTNV in Las Vegas spoke with a parent who was at the Lied Memorial Boys and Girls Club. Concerned with his kid's safety, he did not want to be identified."It was scary you know just to know that all those kids around, and how fast the situation escalated... just one second everybody was having fun and the next second it was chaos," the parent said. "It was a 'think fast' moment because the kids were close. More than anything it was just getting the kids out of the way and then figuring out what was going on."KTNV reached out to Boys and Girls Club and the National Youth Sports League which oversees the game. The League responded saying it is still "gathering facts" saying, "If found that any of the individuals were involved in our league they will be immediately removed and we will press charges. This is in no way the kind of behavior that should ever happen at a child's game."Parents also told KTNV they're disappointed. They said as adults, people should be able to control our anger. 1610
A potential tropical storm has its eyes on Puerto Rico this week, prompting the National Hurricane Center to issue a tropical storm warning for the island territory. The unnamed storm has not officially been deemed a tropical storm, but is topping low-end tropical storm winds of 40 MPH. A number of other Caribbean islands, including the US Virgin Islands, are under tropical storm warnings.Because the storm lacks a well-defined center, it is not considered a tropical storm officially. But the National Hurricane Center expects the disturbance it has named “Potential Tropical Cyclone No. 9” to better organize in the next day. After it passes the Caribbean islands, it will begin approaching the East Coast of the US. The National Hurricane Center’s official cone includes Florida. The storm is still at least four days away from approaching the US mainland. 868
