DEL MAR, Calif. (KGTV) - Polo spectators will enjoy a new venue this month as the San Diego Polo Classic moves to the Del Mar Fairgrounds. The event, previously held on the beach at the Hotel Del Coronado, will take space Sept. 28 at the Del Mar Arena. Two games will take place, including one pitting the Porsche San Diego team against an all-Hawaiian Tommy Bahamas team. During a polo match, players on horseback try to hit as many goals as possible. Each team has four players. The match is broken into four time periods called chukkas, each lasting seven minutes. Much of the sport is about what happens off the field. DENVER – In a matter of days, Christopher Watts went from pleading in an interview with Scripps station KMGH for his wife and kids to come home, to wearing an orange jumpsuit and becoming one of Colorado's most notorious accused killers.Police arrested Watts late on the night of?Aug. 15 for allegedly killing his pregnant wife, Shanann Watts, and young daughters Celeste and Bella.Watts faces three counts of first-degree murder, two counts of first-degree murder – victim under 12 in a position of trust, one count of first-degree unlawful termination of a pregnancy, and three counts of tampering with a deceased human body, according to Colorado court records and documents.This isn't a story about why he did it; it is a story about a decision that could cost him his life.Five of the aforementioned counts make him eligible for the death penalty. Many Coloradans and people from around the world are already calling for Watts' execution and have even created a private Facebook group dedicated the topic.Ultimately, the decision on whether to seek the death penalty against Watts lies solely on the shoulders of one person: Weld County District Attorney Michael Rourke.Rourke has 63 days to make the decision after Watts' arraignment, a hearing that has not yet even been scheduled. "I felt the death penalty is not justice. It's vengeance and vengeance doesn't belong in our courts."Becker's time on a death penalty jury came to an abrupt and emotional end after the judge let the defense present evidence sympathetic to the defendant. Evidence Becker believes should have come to light long before he was asked to potentially put a man to death. Evidence so strong, the prosecution ended up taking the death penalty off the table."It became very apparent to me that we are asking people to come to this conclusion and not providing them all of the information. We're hiding facts and we're hiding the information and asking them to do that," said Becker.He also brings up another perspective: what about the heavy burden that kind of decision leaves on jurors?"Is it fair? Data released on Monday by the FBI shows a drop in violent crime in the US in 2019, continuing a trend in recent years.The FBI said that violent crimes in the US dropped 1 percent in 2019 compared to 2018. The improvement was the third straight year of a declining violent crime rate in the US.The FBI added that property crimes in the US dropped 4.5 percent from 2018.The amount of violent crime in the US has dropped significantly so far in the 21st century, per FBI data. In 2000, there were 506 reported instances of violent crimes per 100,000 people. In 2019, that number had dropped to 366 violent crimes per 100,000 people.The FBI has also reported a significant drop in property crimes over the years – for things like thefts and larcenies.“I am encouraged by the great work being done by law enforcement to combat violent crime across the nation,” said FBI Deputy Director Dave Bowdich. “The FBI continues to make clear that violence will not be tolerated, and we are committed to continuing our work with state, local, and tribal partners across the country to confront and deter violence, dismantle criminal organizations and gangs, eradicate drug trafficking, and bring justice to victims.” 1210

DENVER — "Game of Thrones" fans who wanted to own something like the near-mythical "Dire Wolves" on the series are now abandoning Huskies in record numbers."People have actually asked me if we have any Dire Wolves. That doesn't exist." said Maren Gibson with the Arctic Breeds Rescue, which rescues Huskies, Malamutes and other northern breeds in Utah and Colorado. "They have no real knowledge of the breed."Now, many of those dogs are being found on the street or abandoned in shelters."We've said amongst ourselves, 'What is going on with all these lost Huskies?'" said Stephanie Weber, who helps run the Facebook group Lost and Found Dogs of Colorado. Weber said they have recently seen a surge in found Huskies that no one is looking for."So, it seems sort of like maybe they are not just getting loose," said Weber. "Maybe someone is turning them loose, getting rid of them." At the Dumb Friends League Shelter in Aurora, there has also been a significant increase in the number of Huskies and Malamutes. The shelter has seen a 25 percent increase in the last fiscal year, compared to only a 2.5 percent increase the year before.Some are strays, but almost half of them have been surrendered by their owners."The reasons people are giving when they are surrendering the dogs are time and space, which means they don't have enough time for the dog, they don't have enough space for the dog," said Maia Brusseau, a spokeswoman with the Dumb Friends League. "If you want to adopt this type of dog, you need to make sure it's right for your lifestyle."The high-energy breed can be a challenge for many owners."Northern breeds are difficult," said Weber, who is fostering a Husky mix. "They're stubborn. They're runners. They're escape artists, They're chewers. They're very vocal. They have high energy and need a lot of exercise. They're great dogs if you're willing to make your life fit around them."Weber said too many people choose pets as an extension of the favorite show or movie and not based on what is the best fit for their family."When '101 Dalmatians' came out, everyone wanted a Dalmatian. It happens with every trend like that. but 15 years is a long time to live with not the right dog," said Weber.She recommends volunteering at a wolf rescue if you want to see something like a Dire Wolf or fostering the breed before you decide to adopt. 2427

Democratic presidential nominee Joe Biden’s campaign is committing to releasing the results of all future COVID-19 tests the candidate takes.Biden spokesman Andrew Bates repeated Saturday evening that the former vice president is tested “regularly.” But before President Donald Trump’s coronavirus diagnosis earlier this week Biden had not disclosed full details of his testing protocol or the results of each test.Biden told reporters Saturday in Wilmington that he was not tested earlier in the day but would be tested Sunday morning. His campaign said he tested negative for COVID twice on Friday.Biden says he was not tested for the coronavirus on Saturday but will undergo such screening on Sunday.After attending Saturday evening Catholic Mass in Wilmington, Delaware, Biden was asked if he’d undergone testing for the virus that day and replied, “No, but I will tomorrow morning.”Biden’s campaign has not announced any public events for its candidate on Sunday.Bates said in the statement that Biden was not in “close contact” with Trump, his family members or his aides during their debate Tuesday night.
