Hundreds of students at Sage Creek High School in Carlsbad witnessed a graphic and emotional presentation about DUI driving Tuesday. The program is called "Every 15 Minutes" is presented by the CHP and other local first responders. Teens saw fellow students injured or dead after a drunk driving crash and also saw another student arrested for getting behind the wheel intoxicated. The two day program will conclude Wednesday with a mock funeral and a presentation by a CHP officer who lost family members in a DUI crash last year.  565

IMPERIAL BEACH, Calif. (KGTV) - Parents in Imperial Beach say the conditions are Reama Park could be dangerous to their children, as playground equipment is starting to show signs of deterioration."It's not normal wear and tear," says Casandra Stoll, who brings her daughter to the park almost every day. "I'd say it's something that needs to be addressed for sure."Stoll says her daughter tore her pants on a crack that developed in one of the slides. She also pointed out parts of the playground where rust and cracked plastic have created jagged edges."If she were to get cut on that, you have to worry about tetanus and any other kind of infection you can get," says Stoll.Other areas of the park have patches in the padded ground that are missing. Even the plastic coverings on park benches and tables have been worn away to expose the rusted metal.Rust on the playground equipment has also created holes in the pipes. Some of them are big enough for a child's finger to get stuck in.Parents says they understand that the playground won't always be in pristine condition. They're willing to accept some rust from the sea-air and normal wear and tear on the equipment. But they say the damage at Reama Park is too much.Sam Townsley brings his daughter Samantha to the park often. He wants her to be able to run free and have fun but says he's keeping an eye out for damage and danger."She's got a sense of autonomy," he says. "As long as there's no overt risk, it's alright."Parents say they hope the city can make repairs quickly."I just hope they can maintain it and keep it up and keep it safe for all the kids to enjoy for years to come," says Stoll.The City of Imperial Beach responded to 10News Tuesday, saying they’re waiting for money to come from the state parks bond, and expect to receive 0,000 for repairs within the next fiscal year.Officials also said they’re aware of the problems, and that Reama Park is in the worst condition of any Imperial Beach park. 1985

Hurricane Hunters have been flying in and out of Hurricane Delta continuously for days, getting a close-up look as the hurricane has re- intensified.Delta regained some of its previous fury. The hurricane, which was once a Category 4 before striking Mexico, dropped to a Category 1 on Wednesday. As the storm is set to strike the Louisiana coast on Friday, Delta has re-intensified into a Category 3 hurricane with top winds of 115 mph.As of Thursday evening, the hunters found that Delta had a 30-mile wide eye. Getting such detailed data from inside the hurricane can give forecasters a sense of the impact a hurricane will produce.There are two Air Force Reserve groups that fly into hurricanes to send back data to the National Hurricane Center.In total, the Air Force Reserve utilizes 20 WC-130J aircraft that are equipped with palletized meteorological data-gathering instruments.According to the Hurricane Hunters, “The navigator keeps track of the aircraft's position and movement and monitors radar to avoid tornadic activity. The flight meteorologist acts as flight director and observes and records meteorological data at flight level using a computer that encodes weather data every 30 seconds. The weather reconnaissance loadmaster collects and records vertical meteorological data using a parachute-borne sensor known as a dropsonde. HPAKANT, Myanmar (AP) — Officials in Myanmar say a landslide at a jade mine in the country’s north has killed at least 162 people.The landslide took place in Kachin state, the center of the world’s biggest and most lucrative jade mining industry.The death toll surpasses the 113 killed in what previously was the worst such jade mining accident, in November 2015.The victims are usually freelance miners who settle near giant mounds of discarded earth that has been mined in bulk by heavy machinery in order to scavenge for small bits of jade. 551
