Two childcare workers have turned themselves into Florida police custody after a video surfaced of them berating, taunting and throwing a backpack at an 8-year-old child with autism.On Sept. 1, Winter Haven PD found out about a Snapchat video showing 26-year-old Kaderrica Smith and then 19-year-old Alexis Henderson taunting, aggravating, yelling at and tripping a student at Our Children's Academy.The 8-year-old is seen and heard in the video crying and hiding underneath a table while Henderson and Smith continue to taunt him.At one point the child tries to run towards one of the workers when she grabs his arms and sweeps his legs out from under him causing him to fall.The video lasts about three minutes and at one point shows one of the workers throwing a backpack at the child, hitting him in the face."There has to be an accountability measure for folks," said Winter Haven Police Chief Charlie Bird. "Especially when they're supposed to be the professionals. They get hired as the professionals, they're being paid as the professionals."In initial interviews, the two said they felt they were acting appropriately and did nothing wrong. Henderson and Smith just received their certification for childcare last month. "Those aren't methods that you can even begin to defend as being used to defuse a situation with an autistic child," said Bird. They were each immediately fired by the faculty and DCF placed a hold on their certifications.The child was interviewed by a DCF Child Protection Team member on Sept. 15 and it was determined the acts were criminal.Police were initially unable to locate the two, thus giving reason to issue a warrant.  1713

TUCSON, AZ - The United States Customs and Border Patrol says several agents were assaulted in two different incidents on Tuesday.Both incidents happened near the border, west of Tucson.In the first incident, agents were attempting to stop a human smuggling operation involving four male suspects. During the arrest attempt, one of the men became combative, according to Border Patrol.The 25-year-old Guatemalan national allegedly threw dirt at an agent’s face and swung a belt with a large buckle on it at an agent. After being taken into custody, the suspect also allegedly spit in an agent’s face.The three other suspects, including two illegal aliens and an Arizona man, were also arrested.In the second incident, Border Patrol says an agent was assaulted while attempting to arrest an illegal alien west of Three Points. The agent and a canine partner tracked the 36-year-old Guatemalan national into a desolate desert area. The man became combative and hit the agent several times, according to Border Patrol. The agent eventually took the man into custody. The suspect involved in the second assault was previously removed from the country in May for immigration violations. One agent was taken to a local hospital for evaluation and has been released.Border Patrol did not indicate which incident that agent was involved in. 1360

Two pilots on different aircraft recently reported seeing unidentified flying objects in the airspace near them.A commercial pilot for American Airlines, who was flying a passenger jet Feb. 24 over Arizona, reported to Albuquerque Center air traffic control between 3:30 and 4:15 p.m. local time that an object seen?flying at 40,000 feet was unidentifiable and had a big reflection, according to The Huffington Post. Audio of the conversation between the pilot and?air traffic control was released by the Federal Aviation Administration to a website called The Drive, a product of Time Inc. In it, the jet's pilot is heard saying the UFO was flying the opposite direction of the airplane at least 2,000 to 3,000 feet above the plane.The FAA did not have knowledge of anything expected to fly above the jet when the UFO incident occurred.The pilot was asked whether he thought it was a Google balloon, and he said, "doubtful," The Drive's military and aviation correspondent reported.Another commercial pilot flying nearby at the same time also reported seeing an unidentifiable object, just after the first pilot's report. TWENTYNINE PALMS, Calif. (KGTV) - A military servicemember has been charged in connection with the shooting death investigation of a Navy medic on a Southern California military base. ABC10 News investigative reporter Jennifer Kastner first broke the story in 2019 after learning that the sudden death of 30-year-old HM3 Michael Vincent De Leon was being investigated as a homicide, not a suicide, like the family said they were led to believe.De Leon was a Navy corpsman, commonly known as a medic. He died last summer on the Twentynine Palms Marine military base, which is located a few hours northeast of San Diego. On Wednesday, a spokesperson for the Marines sent ABC10 News the following statement:“As you might know, this incident is still under investigation. I can confirm, however, that charges have been preferred against one of the individuals for dereliction of duty resulting in death and dereliction of duty. A hearing is not scheduled at this time. The other individuals are being investigated.
