SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — Hoover High School Friday celebrated the topping off of one of its newest additions to campus.The campus set the final beam of its new 500-seat theater into place, with students and staff signing the steel beam before a crane lifted it into place. The event marked the latest completion in the school's massive renovation project, which has already seen the return of the school's once iconic tower. The tower, which was topped off in January 2019, could once be seen from El Cajon Blvd., before it was taken down in 1976 due to seismic safety standards.Once the renovations are completed, Hoover High will have not only its Spanish-style tower back but also a new theater with theater support and instructional space, and a three-story building accommodating counselors, support staff, and students.The new classroom building will feature 20 classrooms to replace outdated modular classrooms elsewhere on campus.The project will also see a reconfiguration of the main parking lot, courtyard improvements, and a student drop-off area. 1062

Gavin Newsom on Thursday ordered a statewide "limited Stay at Home Order" for San Diego County and other counties in the state's COVID-19 purple tier.In a release on the governor’s website, the state’s curfew will take effect Saturday, Nov. 21. It will be from 10 p.m.-5 a.m.The curfew is set to expire on Dec. 21 at 5 a.m.The state said the restrictions are similar to the stay at home order issued in March.This time, however, the order only applies to counties in California's purple tier status under its COVID-19 reopening plan.Newsom said, “The virus is spreading at a pace we haven’t seen since the start of this pandemic and the next several days and weeks will be critical to stop the surge. We are sounding the alarm. It is crucial that we act to decrease transmission and slow hospitalizations before the death count surges. We’ve done it before and we must do it again."San Diego County Supervisor Greg Cox, in response to the statewide curfew, said, "Look, we know we all want to see this pandemic end. And believe me, we do too. But those who float the public health orders, those who refuse to use masks and facial coverings are just prolonging the misery."“Bottom line is, wear those damn masks out there. Socially distance. SAN DIEGO (KGTV) — From birthdays to barbecues, there have been five community outbreaks linked to private parties at homes.A spokesperson for the County of San Diego said the outbreaks happened just after Easter through mid-June, and 33 people tested positive for COVID-19.Three of the residential outbreaks are still active, while two have expired. The outbreaks at private residences have caused health officials to worry, especially with the 4th of July quickly approaching."People who wanted to get together with friends after a period of not being able to do so are having gatherings of maybe 10 to 25 people," said Dr. Eric Mcdonald, director of the county’s epidemiology and immunization department.
