BEIJING, Feb.14 (Xinhua) - Shanghai General Motors Co. will recall 2,806 imported Cadillac CTS vehicles in China to repair faulty track bars to prevent safety risks, China's quality watchdog said on Monday.The recall, which is set to begin on March 21, includes models that were produced between June 16, 2008 and April 20, 2009, the General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement on its website.The statement said that the company would repair or replace the rear suspension track bars of the recalled vehicles because some nuts on the bars are likely to loosen and cause worn screw threads.This could lead to a loosened track bar under extreme conditions, which is unsafe when traveling fast, it said.The company is to contact car owners to provide free checks and repairs. BEIJING, Jan. 31 (Xinhua) -- China's Ministry of Finance (MOF) said Monday it had allocated 28.23 billion yuan (4.27 billion U.S. dollars) to assure retired enterprise employees receive their pensions before the arrival of the Spring Festival.The State Council, or the Cabinet, decided at an executive meeting last December to raise the retired enterprise employees' pension about 10 percent from 2010 levels, or about 140 yuan per person per month in 2011.The MOF also said local governments had issued 10.24 billion yuan of festival subsidies to 85.97 million people.The Spring Festival, the Chinese lunar New Year is a time for family reunions in China. BEIJING, Jan. 22 (Xinhua) -- Beijing is ready to kick off its first ever car license plates lottery, to be broadcast live both on TV and over the Internet on Jan. 26, said officials with the allotment office Saturday.A total of 17,600 car license plates will be allocated to qualified individual applicants through the lottery, in keeping with the principles of openness, fairness and equity, according to the office.Validation for the first batch of 210,178 individual applicants has been completed, and the office will make public the results, as well as lottery time and rules, on Tuesday.Applicants can check out the validation information at bjhjyd.gov.cn.The first group of car license plates for institution and company applicants will also be allocated through the lottery on the same day.The Beijing municipal government put in place the lottery mechanism at the end of last year in an effort to curb the capital city's fast growth of automobiles, which resulted in worsening traffic jams.The new mechanism seeks to reduce new car registrations by allowing only 240,000 in 2011, or about one-third of new cars registered in 2010.Data from the Beijing Municipal Commission of Transport (BMCT) shows there were only 78,000 cars in Beijing in 1978 and 200,000 in 1985.However, the number of cars soared after the country entered the 21st century amid fast economic growth and urbanization.Within 13 years, the number of cars in Beijing more than quadrupled to 4.76 million in 2010 from 1 million in 1997, according to the BMCT.

NAIROBI, Jan. 28 (Xinhua) -- Although exact details surrounding the situation are not known at this time, there are indications that the fishing vessel TAI JUAN 227 from China's Taiwan has been released from pirate control, the EU anti piracy mission said on Friday.The vessel, which had a crew of 28 at the time of the attack, was pirated on May 6, 2010 while operating 700 Nm North East of Seychelles.EU Naval Force spokesman Paddy O'Kennedy said in a statement that although direct contact with the crew has not been possible, the vessel's owners apparently received a call from the master stating that they had been released but that they did not know why.According to the EU naval force, the crew were provided with fresh food and water by a U.S. warship after the release. The vessel is currently heading away from Somalia.The naval spokesman also said that there is confusion surrounding the details of the release as, until three days ago, the FV TAI YUAN 227 was suspected as being used as a pirate mothership.The Gulf of Aden, a body of water between Somalia and Yemen, is the main sea route between Europe and Asia.Tankers carrying Middle East oil through the Suez Canal must pass first through the Gulf of Aden. Pirate gangs operating along Somalia's coastline have become increasingly audacious over the past two years, hijacking dozens of merchant ships and their crews to earn ransoms that can top 1 million U.S. dollars per ship.So far the fledgling Somali government has not dared go after the pirate strongholds, since pirate leaders have more power than the beleaguered government.
