LAS VEGAS (KGTV) -- Friends of a San Diego pilot killed in a Las Vegas plane crash in late October said he had years of experience.Friends identified the pilot as Robert Golo.The passenger, 35-year-old Tyrone Calabar, was also killed.“It was kind of a shock to everybody. We still can’t believe it,” said fellow pilot and Golo’s friend, Flynn Ortiz. “He was so well known and so well respected.”On the morning of October 29th, the plane crashed near Raven Avenue, several miles southwest of the Las Vegas strip. Witnesses told the Clark County Fire Department they saw the plane flying low before hearing the crash.The plane was supposed to be heading back to Gillespie Field.Ortiz said he and Golo’s planes were parked next to each other at Gillespie Field. “I’ve known him for a couple years. I’ve flown with him quite a bit,” Ortiz said.Ortiz said because of his charter license, Golo was under more scrutiny and underwent more inspections. “He owned the airplane that was involved in the accident, another twin-engine airplane, and a small jet. He was very well experienced.”According to Golo’s LinkedIn page, he had operated Air Charter Express since the late 1980s.Both the NTSB and the FAA are investigating. A preliminary report is set to be released in the upcoming days. The official cause of the accident likely will not come for at least a year, according to the NTSB. 1388

LA MESA, Calif. (KGTV) -- La Mesa Police are warning people who own Ford Rangers about a string of recent burglaries. According to the department, the trucks are being targeted for burglary. Since the beginning of the year, eight of the trucks have been targeted by car prowlers - an unusually high number. Detectives say there are no patterns when it comes to how the the thieves are breaking in or what they’re taking.Police advise people who own the vehicles to remove any valuables. Anyone who sees suspicious activity is asked to call police at 619-667-1400. 572

LA POSTA RESERVATION, Calif. (KGTV) - A local Native American tribe is considering its legal options after one of their sacred sites was vandalized. At least 5 rocks in an area used by the La Posta Band of Mission Indians’ ancestors were spray painted over the weekend.“A lot people don’t understand they’re on the reservation here,” said Victor Estrada, Vice Chairmen of the La Posta Band of Mission Indians. La Posta Reservation is about 50 miles east of San Diego and was blanketed by snow last week prompting visitors to make the trek out to the high elevation to see it. “You can come out here and play in our snow, but don’t destroy our stuff,” said Estrada, “don’t spray paint your name and your family and say 'hey you were here.' We understand you were here, we know you were here.” Estrada says they found out who may have vandalized it through social media and that the tribe may prosecute, but would be open to the offenders cleaning it up themselves. Those claiming responsibility wrote a statement to 10News saying in part: “We are truly sorry as we were not aware that we were on sacred or tribal lands. LAS VEGAS — A Las Vegas family is living in fear after two men broke in while their teenage daughter hid in a bedroom closet.17-year-old Maxeen is still shook up after what happened inside her home near Cactus and Interstate 15 on Saturday.“It sucks to just be alone and I’ve never been in a situation like that,” she said.Maxeen said she was home alone Saturday when someone started ringing the doorbell repeatedly around 2:30 p.m.Maxeen felt something was wrong, and that’s when she says a man showed up in the backyard breaking in through the sliding glass door.“I tried to call my mom but she was at work, so I kind of ran upstairs and I knew he was going to come to the back,” the teen said.Maxeen dialed 911 and hid in one of the closets in a bedroom.The home’s interior surveillance camera shows two men running up the stairs where Maxeen was hiding.Maxeen’s mom is thankful her daughter is OK, but says this frightening ordeal has hit the entire family.“We’re very disturbed right now,” Maxeen's mother, Barbara, said. “It feels like it’s not real, but it is. So we got affected by it and everyone is so scared.”The family said the burglars actually left their getaway ride outside the home when they left.They took a picture of it and hope that vehicle will lead police to the two.  1309

She is the third Latin American leader to be infected in recent weeks.
